What's New?

Here's what is happening in 4D...

Religion
The class watched The Easter Story and talked about the connection between Easter and the butterfly.

Literacy We are halfway through The Birchbark House. Omakayas and her family have moved to their winter home. She and her family have heard that settlers have been forcing their people off their land. Deydey (her father) discussed this with one of his friends.

We finished up adverbs and have moved on to quotations-which can be tricky!

We discussed the new writing project-a report on an endangered animal. The students will begin researching next week. They will fill in information on a graphic organizer, write a rough draft and a final copy. They will type their final copies in computer class with Mrs. Slocum.

Spelling There is a Spelling packet in red folders. It is due on Wednesday of next week.

(There are two Spelling lists: O is on level and B is beyond level. Your fourth grader can choose which words s/he would like to spell for the test on Thursday. The packet is due on Wednesday and the test will be on Thursday.  The packet and test should be done in CURSIVE unless your child has made arrangements with me to print.)

Math
We talked about symmetry and reviewed area and perimeter this week. Instead of a geometry project, there will be a geometry day that will be held in school. More information to follow.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE PRACTICING MATH FACTS SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK AS PART OF THEIR HOMEWORK.

A great place to find support is with the MATH ANTICS video series. If you search for Math Antics and the topic you wish to explore, you should be able to find these informative and entertaining Math videos.

Science
The students are well into the human body unit. Next week will be studying owl pellets. Ask your fourth grader about it!

Social Studies
The students finished up studying Wisconsin's first people and will be learning about explorers and traders next.
