Mrs. Mary Pat Gawrysiak
Hi. I am Mrs. Mary Pat Gawrysiak and I am the K/5 teacher at St. Roman
Parish School. I have been teaching at St. Roman since 1988. I thoroughly
enjoy working with this age level...watching the wonder and innocence in
their eyes as they discover so much in Kindergarten. I graduated from UW-
Milwaukee in Early Childhood Education. I taught for one year and then I
stayed home with my children for 10 years as a stay-at-home mom. When my
youngest daughter was in 2nd grade, I found myself here, at St. Roman, and
have been here happily ever since.
My husband and I have 2 daughters who received a Catholic education. They
attended St. Jude Catholic School and Divine Savior Holy Angels High
School. My older daughter, Gina, graduated from UW- Whitewater with a
teaching degree in Early Childhood Education and taught Kindergarten in
Green Bay. She is presently taking time off and is staying home with their
son, Cooper. Yes, I am the very proud grandmother of Cooper Thomas Anderson
who was born on March 4, 2008. She is pregnant again with our second
grandchild and is due on Thanksgiving of 2009. My younger daughter, Kelly,
graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a degree in Education, presently works for
Cardinal Stritch University as an Associate Enrollment Counselor in Madison,
and was married last summer. She and her husband Jon, live in Madison.
My husband and I valued a Catholic education in our own lives and felt it
was an important priority for our children.
Teaching at St. Roman has been so rewarding for me. I have treasured all
the wonderful experiences I've been blessed to have with so many special
families.

I am so pleased you chose to come to my website to find out a little bit
more about the St. Roman Kindergarten. To get to know the Kindergarten, I
think you should get to know a little bit more about me and my philosophy
of education.
My belief, as a teacher, is to give praise and build confidence in each and
every one of my students. They need to be loved, accepted and to feel a
sense of security. This will enhance their self-esteem. Children who
believe in themselves can accomplish anything. Students come into school
imaginative, active, energetic, creative, curious, inquisitive,
enthusiastic, and expressive. It is my goal to use those qualities to help
them through the kindergarten curriculum.
I believe that questioning and demonstration needs to be used in the
classroom. Students need to experiment and experience trial and error
through hands on activities. Visual, auditory, and sensory media are used
to reach all styles of learning. Large group, small group, and one-on- one
instruction will be provided. A theme-based curriculum is a stimulating and
diversified approach to learning and that's what is implemented in this
program. The atmosphere is comfortable, secure, and stimulating.
Each child that steps into my classroom is regarded as a unique individual
and is treated as such. Each one matures at his or her own rate and each is
a SPECIAL GIFT FROM GOD!
