Classroom
Expectations
and
Rules of the Gym
To make P.E. a learning,
successful environment for the students,
I have several
expectations:
Learning takes place not
only through static instruction but through movement as well. It is essential
for me to be able to manage the physical environment in the gym due to the
potential for injury. Therefore, my lesson plans are designed around what is
safe for the students. I expect each and every child that comes into PE class
to act and move responsibly, and to be dressed appropriately.
-
Follow directions the
first time they are given
-
Always stay Under
control - When moving in the gym: Watch where you are going, let your mind
tell your body what to do, follow all instructions given and move at an
appropriate speed
-
Use good listening
skills - Demonstrate Active Listening by: sitting up
straight with legs crossed with quiet hands while focusing on the person
who is speaking
-
Be respectful of others,
yourself, and the equipment/facility
-
Change quickly and
quietly in the locker rooms
-
Come prepared for class
(shoes and clothes - please see the handbook)
-
Food, drinks, gum and
candy do not enter the gym area
-
Keep your hands to
yourself
-
Show great sportsmanship
at all times
-
Do not leave the gym
area without permission from the teacher
-
"Whistle" or "Music
stops" - means stop - look - listen
Participation is a
must!
Proper uniform and shoes
are required by all students to maximize their potential for physical success
and minimize their potential for physical harm.
(Check the P.E. Dress
Code page or the Student Handbook for details)
Some examples of improper
footwear are:
Wheelie shoes, High sole
shoes , Sandals, Untied loose fitting shoes, Dress Shoes
If you are ill or
have an injury:
Students who come to PE
class with medical concerns/excuses must have a note from the parents
explaining the nature of the medical condition and indicate whether the child
should be completely exempt or allowed limited participation in P.E. If the
illness or injury exceeds 1 week, please bring in a signed note from a doctor.
It is expected that
if a student is to ill to participate in PE, they are also unable to
participate in after school athletic practices or games
Locker Room Rules:
Choose a bench space
that you can use all year long
No changing clothes in
the bathroom
Be respectful of others
(mind your own business)
Do not touch/move other
students' property
No spray deodorant, body
sprays, hair sprays, or cologne
No running around or
chasing others
Keep the lights on at
all times
Change quickly and
quietly
When Rules are
violated:
Strike One:
Students are given a quick reminder to self correct a behavior.
Strike Two:
Students are either asked or told what they are doing wrong and how to self
correct the negative behavior.
Strike Three:
Students are asked to sit out until they can show self control, by: Not
displaying an negative attitude when sat out, sitting up straight and looking
like they want to participate. Students are returned to the class as soon as
appropriate behavior is displayed, and the instructor feels it is safe to do
so.
If students
argue, display negative emotion, physical or verbally, they will continue to
sit out and a note will be sent home through the Roman “R” system.
If any student is:
Being verbally or
physical aggressive with the intent to do harm, or displaying severe
disrespectful behavior towards others or
intentionally choosing
to perform acts which may harm themselves or others - their behavior will be
documented by a Roman “R”and they will be asked to sit out for the remainder
of class or if necessary go to the office to meet with the Principal.
