Star Student

Dear Parents,

Throughout the year I like to spotlight each student as the "Star
Student." Each one week time period will begin with a class interview session
creating a feature write up on the Star Student. Your child may bring in some
special things, with your permission, during the week to share with the class.
The schedule for the year is made in advance to allow plenty of notice,
because I would love to schedule a time for one or more of the Star Student's
family members to visit the classroom. Fifteen to twenty minutes is all that
is needed to read your child's favorite book to the class, listen to their
interview and view their special Star Student project! Your family pet is
also welcome to visit with your supervision. This is always a popular feature
of being Star Student! No special treats are needed, but if your child has a
summer birthday, this is a great week to celebrate. We also enjoy snacks that
can replace our morning graham crackers occasionally, such as Wheat Thins,
Goldfish crackers, pretzels, etc.
Our classroom mascot (stuffed, of course) will spend Friday through
Wednesday at home with your child to kick off the Star Student week. Each
student should create a journal entry about his/her adventures with the
mascot. Be creative and have fun! Add pictures or photos to the story if
you like! The journal and mascot are due back to school on Thursday, so we
have time to share with the class before they go home with someone new.
At the end of the year each student will type his/her interview in the
computer lab and create his/her own page for our second grade yearbook. The
schedule is in random order. If you have any questions do not hesitate to
call.

Sincerely,
