Excused absence--how to find out what you missed
If it is possible for someone to pick it up/deliver it to you,
you might want to have your parent call the school (on the day
you are absent) and ask your homeroom teacher to gather
assignments from all classes for you. You will also most
definitely need to check in with teachers (outside of
instructional time) the very day you return to school to see if
there are other things you've missed.
Where does the responsibility lie?
Since you will be going to high school before you know it, we
would like to see you taking responsibility like a young adult!
So whether you miss school due to excused or unexcused absence,
it is your responsibility as the student to find out what you
missed. You will need to collect any handouts, and in some cases,
take down notes from a classmate. Though it's great to have
someone write down the assignments and maybe even get it to you
that night so you can keep up, please don't depend totally on
that; it's crucial to also check with your teacher upon your
return.
Due dates for assignments that were due on the day of excused absence
If you are absent on the day that an assignment is due, you must
turn it in on the day you come back to school.
Assignments given on the day of excused absence
In general, you will get an extra day to turn things in. Some
absences and/or assignments may call for a little more time; if
you feel you need an extension, talk with your teacher.
If your absence was excused, make sure you don't lose points for being late
When handing in assignments that are late due to your excused
absence, clearly write "absent" on the top of your page before
handing it in.
Absences due to field trips, stage crew, band lessons, etc.
You are still responsible for material missed due to field trips
or other school related absences. In some cases it will be
treated similarly to any other excused absence, with extra time
allowed; in other cases, you may be expected to keep much the
same pace as your classmates. Please see Mrs. in advance to make
arrangements.
When are you going to give me that quiz?
Once again, it is your responsibility to make arrangements with
me to make up missed quizzes and tests. You will find out about
them when you check in with me after an absence, or possibly when
you see them on your weekly missing work report (P.S. You know we
always have spelling tests on Fridays!). It is often convenient
to make up a short quiz or test at bellwork time. Advisory,
before and after school are also options. Just ask!
