HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN 8TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS.

POETRY
One of the high points of 8th grade Reading / L.A. is the Beat Poet's Coffee 
House. Drink coffee, recite poetry, and offer up snaps to other cool kats and 
kittens in the groovy candle-lit coffee house Grotto 22. Don't be a square, 
Daddy-o.

MLA STYLE RESEARCH PAPER 
Wo! Your teachers at high school are going to be impressed when they see your 
mad skills after you create this MLA-cited baby. This paper is written in 
conjunction with either social studies/Washington DC or science fair.

PERSUASIVE ESSAYS
Part of being a teen is trying to convince your parents that you should be 
allowed to stay out late, or shouldn't have to clean your room, or some other 
such plays for independence. Well, here's your chance. Find out how the 
concepts of opposition and refutation can help you to make your side of the 
argument stronger!

SHORT STORIES
We'll evaluate the literary components of some short stories, and then you'll 
write your own!

ANNE FRANK
Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl, was probably the most famous victim of the 
Holocaust. She wrote a diary while her family lived in hiding during WWII. 
Later, her father had it published, and it is still read in schools around 
the world today.

PROPAGANDA and MEDIA AWARENESS
You don't want to be taken advantage of, do you? It's important to know how 
the media works to get you to do things you might not otherwise do.

NOVELS:

THE CALL OF THE WILD
Jack London's famous story about sled dogs and the frozen north.

TOM SAWYER
If you've ever seen "Tom and Huck," you know a bit about Tom Sawyer. This is 
a funny adventure story about being a kid.

BULL RUN
There were many different attitudes towards the Civil War as it was going on. 
This book will give you some insight into some of the different perspectives.

THE OUTSIDERS
This is a book that everyone seems to enjoy! If you like the movie/musical 
GREASE, you'll love The Outsiders.
