About The Teacher
EDUCATION: B.A. Magna Cum Laude from Carroll College; Waukesha, WI. Major: English. Minor: Secondary Education UW Washington County 1999 English Department Award PERSONAL: *I like dogs, squirrels, Led Zeppelin, Chucks, coffee, playing The Sims, and singing loudly. *Before coming to Trevor in 2005, I taught at Random Lake H.S. Half of my day was spent teaching 9th grade English; the other part of my day, I taught in the homes of district students who couldn’t come to school for medical reasons. *My husband and I live in Hartford. We have three children; the youngest is 17! MY FAVORITE BOOKS 1) TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD; Harper Lee This story is the narrator's memories of growing up in the Deep South in the 1930s with her brother Jem. Their father is a lawyer who has been assigned to defend a black man against a white woman. Spooky Boo Radley, who lives next door, fuels the kids' imaginations--he stabbed his father in the leg with a scissors? He comes out at night and eats stray cats? They spend summers acting out such scenarios with their friend Dill. Over the course of three years, Scout learns a lot about prejudice and courage. 2) THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING; T.H. White If you like the movie "Excalibur," the old Disney animated "The Sword in the Stone," or the musical "Camelot," you'll like this book. It's the story of King Arthur, who learns from the wizard Merlyn, is changed into animals in his childhood, pulls the sword from the stone, becomes king, and creates a round table of knights to further the cause of right in the world. 3) LIFE OF PI; Yann Martel Pi is a boy from India whose parents own a zoo. When they decide to move to Canada, they load animals and all on a freighter ship and head across the ocean. In a horrible shipwreck, Pi is tossed into a lifeboat with a hyena, orangutan, and a huge Bengal tiger. This is the story of Pi's survival for 227 days at sea, at times near death, and an encounter with a bizarre island. 4) OUT OF AFRICA; Isak Dinesen The movie is a great love story, but as we know, the book is always better! The Danish author writes this book as a lyrical and melancholy memoir of her life on a coffee farm in Kenya.
