I am a graduate of the Monona Grove School District. I recieved my
undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. After
graduation I moved to Gallup, New Mexico where I taught second grade for six
years. I moved back to Wisconsin in 1990 and taught in a second and third
grade multi-age classroom in Waterloo,WI. After two years teaching at
Waterloo I was offered a third grade postion at Cottage Grove Elementary
School. I graciously accepted and have enjoyed being back and seeing some of
my former teachers. After two years teaching at this grade level, I decided
to move up to fouth grade. This is my fifth year teaching in the district. I
recieved a Master's Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Cardinal Stritch
University.
I have several interests that range from playing the flute and piano to
camping and fishing. I enjoy making up jingles and raps to assist with my
students' learning. A hobby of mine is collecting children's books along with
the stuffed animal character.
I have been teaching for over ten years and can tell you that it is still
as fun and exciting as my first job in Gallup, New Mexico. Every day brings a
new experience and challenge that never makes teaching dull. It is the best
job ever.
My mission for my class is to ensure student success with expectations
that are attainable for each individual. I do this by developing an
environment where students feel safe and comfortable enabling them to take
risks. It is important for my students to know that we learn by making
mistakes.
My variety of teaching styles allows me to easily reach the individual
learning rates and styles in my classroom. I have a structured, child-
centered classroom which emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning.
Flex grouping is used in all subject areas. My students are grouped in
various ways that are constantly changing. They are grouped by interest,
ability, specific need, or choice. This allows my students to work and learn
from one another.
Modeling the love of being a life-long learner is important. When my
students see me being excited about learning, they then recipricate.
