Process

Step 1: Making a Holiday Choice

The first step in this project is to pick a holiday from the following list. 
There is a brief description of the holiday beside each one to help you make 
your choice.

Christmas - A Christian holiday celebrating the Birth of Jesus 
                   Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God.

Hanukkah - A Jewish holiday also known as the Festival of Lights, 
                  celebrating the triumph of the Jewish faith over religious 
                  supression.

Kwanzaa - An African-American holiday celebrating traditional African 
                 values of family, community responsibility, commerce and
                 self-improvement.

Lunar New Year - Also known as Chinese New Year, is a Chinese, Korean 
                        and Vietnamese holiday celebrating family and 
                        community, as well as the New Year.

Eid-Al-Adha - A Muslim holiday that is also known as The Festival of 
                    the Sacrifice commemorates the God's gift of the ram in
                    place of the biblical patriarch Ibrahim's (Abraham's) 
                    son Isma'il(Ishmael). 

Japanese New Year - also known as Shogatsu or Oshogatsu, it is a 
                           Japanese holiday celebrating the ending of the
                           old year and the begining of a new one.

Bodhi Day - A Buddhist holiday celebrating the day that Siddhartha 
                  Gautama(the historical Buddha) achieved enlightenment.


Step 2: Researching Your Holiday 

Use the links listed beneath your holiday to answer the following questions:

- Who celebrates the holiday?

- How is the holiday celebrated?

- What does the holiday celebrate?

- When is the holiday celebrated?

- Where is the holiday celebrated?

- What are some symbols of that holiday?

You will use the answers you find in your research to give you ideas for how 
to draw your poster.

Step 3: Getting started on your Poster

There are two requirements for your hand-drawn poster; that you use depth 
and shading. In the following links there is a Quicktime music video about 
depth, and a tutorial about different types of shading. Look through both 
and use the techniques in your poster.

Step 4: Drawing and Coloring Your Poster 

Now is the time when you get to put all that you've learned together into a 
creative, interesting poster! remember to have the name of the holiday 
somewhere on the poster, and to use depth and shading techniques!
