Step 1: Making a Holiday Choice
The first step in this project is to pick a holiday from the following list.
There is a brief description of the holiday beside each one to help you make
your choice.
Christmas - A Christian holiday celebrating the Birth of Jesus
Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God.
Hanukkah - A Jewish holiday also known as the Festival of Lights,
celebrating the triumph of the Jewish faith over religious
supression.
Kwanzaa - An African-American holiday celebrating traditional African
values of family, community responsibility, commerce and
self-improvement.
Lunar New Year - Also known as Chinese New Year, is a Chinese, Korean
and Vietnamese holiday celebrating family and
community, as well as the New Year.
Eid-Al-Adha - A Muslim holiday that is also known as The Festival of
the Sacrifice commemorates the God's gift of the ram in
place of the biblical patriarch Ibrahim's (Abraham's)
son Isma'il(Ishmael).
Japanese New Year - also known as Shogatsu or Oshogatsu, it is a
Japanese holiday celebrating the ending of the
old year and the begining of a new one.
Bodhi Day - A Buddhist holiday celebrating the day that Siddhartha
Gautama(the historical Buddha) achieved enlightenment.

Step 3: Getting started on your Poster
There are two requirements for your hand-drawn poster; that you use depth
and shading. In the following links there is a Quicktime music video about
depth, and a tutorial about different types of shading. Look through both
and use the techniques in your poster.

creative, interesting poster! remember to have the name of the holiday
somewhere on the poster, and to use depth and shading techniques!
