Our task for this project will be to explore themes of the 1960s American
Civil Rights Movement. We will explore events leading up to this movement
that will help us understand how race relations have changed since the United
States Supreme Court decided the case of Brown versus Board of Education. You
will learn about measures that were taken to implement courts decisions,
which began the process of improving relations among a diverse nation of
races.
You will learn about the legal, social, political, and educational
affect the movement had on this country. You will analyze these charteristics
and learn about a basic standard of what is meant by "a living breathing
document." After you have researched and collected your data, you will be
asked to write an opinion about what you have learned in your readings. When
you do this assignment you will also be asked to support your opinion. These
four elements characterize major themes that
followed the movement, so pay close attention to these categories because
they will help you answer essential questions about the movement. An outline
of gathered data will assist you in the final construction piece before the
essay is written. The links provided will assist you in acquiring information
for this task.
