Traveling Buddies

http://www.siec.k12.in.us/~west/article/travbud.htm
A fun and easy collaborative project that your classroom and even your whole school can participate in, is with Traveling Buddies. Traveling Buddies are stuffed animals that are mailed to participating schools. While this animal is visiting that school, the host school for the project and the participating school communicate between each other. This article will give you ideas on what kind of travel buddy you could use to represent your school, activities that you can do with participating schools, how to post your announcement for this project, a suggested itinerary, and ways that you can creatively share information.

Mind's Eye Monster Project
http://www.win4edu.com/minds-eye/monster/

A student draws an original monster and then communicates that drawing into words using the writing process and the writing skills taught by the teacher.

The student from a cooperating school (many times another country) receives the description and uses reading comprehension skills to try to redraw the original monster. The real trick is that the redrawn is done only from reading the description!

Virtual Quilt

The idea is that students will create a "patch" along with a description of how the patch represents their community. Then they submit the patch to the "seamstresses" at Ephesus Road Elementary School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and the patch and description are added to the existing quilt.
