Mrs. Sullivan's Announcements

Introduction
I would like to introduce myself as your child’s first grade teacher. My
name is Teresa Sullivan and this will be my 21st year teaching, 4 of which
have been in kindergarten and 16 in first grade. I graduated from West
Virginia University with a BS in Elementary Education. My specialization’s
included early childhood and math.

Enrichment Schedule

Monday-PE
Tuesday- Music
Wednesday-Library
Thursday- Art
Friday- PE 1st, Music 2nd, Library 3rd, Art 4th nine weeks.

Library
Your child will be getting a letter from Mrs. Shuman about library. Our
library day is Wednesday.

Supplies

These are the list of school supplies your child can bring to school. Your
child is not required to bring any of these things.
1.	3 #2 pencils
2.	1 pair of scissors
3.	Glue stick or bottle of glue
4.	3-2pocket folders
5.	Crayons
6.	Box of tissues will be shared with class
7.	Dry erase markers and eraser or old sock.
8.	Money for math tool kit. (4 quarters, 10 dimes, 10 nickels, and 20
pennies.) It is helpful if they have a small container for their money.
I have a list of items that I do not want the students to bring to school:
1.	Pencil sharpeners
2.	Ink pens

Belongings
It is a good idea if you would mark your child’s coat, lunchbox, backpack,
or book bag, and other belongings. We sometimes have children with
identical possessions and it is hard to tell them apart.

Daily Work
I will send your child’s daily work home each day if possible. Sometimes I
don’t always get things graded the same day. It is important that you look
through his/her work for any school notes or important papers that your
child may bring home. Also, other important information is printed on each
month’s lunch menu.

Spare Clothing
It would be helpful if you could send a spare set of clothing to be kept at
school in a gallon size bag marked with your child’ name. Please do not put
them in a shoebox because I have limited storage. Sometimes the children get
sick or wet at recess.

Show and Tell
Each Friday I have show and tell. Your child may bring in something to
share with the other students, like a picture he/she has drawn or colored or
tell about a trip he/she has taken.

Homework Schedule/ Vocabulary/ Spelling List
I will send a weekly vocabulary list and spelling list for the week on
Fridays. On the back of that page there will be information informing you of
important dates, test, and homework assignments.

Parties
We will have holiday classroom parties. I will be sending a paper that you
may sign-up for the particular party you would like to send food or paper
goods for. Please do not feel that you have to send something for every
party. If you would like to have birthday party for your child at school,
let me know and we can arrange that.

Screening
At various times, if you have given permission, your child’s vision,
hearing, and hair will be checked for any problems. Your will be notified
if there is a problem.

Medication
Mrs. Verzich, the school nurse, will be sending you a letter explaining how
medications will be given this year. Please watch for this letter.

Planning Period
I have a planning period at 1:15-1:55 everyday. If you have any question
concerning your child you may call me during this time at school. I can
also be reached before (7:40-7:50) and after (3:05-3:30) school. The number
is 257-1110. You can call me at home if it is necessary, but I have 3
children and it is very hard to talk on the phone. I do not mind calls at
home, it just sometimes hard to get my full attention with my children
around. Home (257-9052).

Snacks
Since we eat lunch so early, your child may bring a snack from home to eat
during snack time in the afternoon. I do not provide snacks.

Insurance
Your child has a form about student insurance. If you are interested in
purchasing the insurance, fill in the information and send in the form
yourself.

Emergency Dismissal
Please make sure your child know where he/she needs to go in case of an
early dismissal.

Bus notes
Students need notes from home when they are to be picked up or ride a
different bus.

Morning Drop Off
Students must report to duty area first thing in mornings unless in room for
academic purposes.

PTO
First meeting September 8th, 7pm. I will be there if you would like to see
your child’s room and answer any questions you may have. Hope to see you
there.

                Sincerely,

                 Teresa Sullivan
