We have been busy the month of November at school. The students pushed through multiplication and learned long multiplication. They are still learning their facts but getting much better with speed. In science they have learned how motion effects every day life. Some of the concepts they learned are friction, Newton's Laws of Motion, balanced and unbalanced forces, gravity, and potential and kinetic energy. The students are working hard and meeting my expectations for learning.
The next month will be busy because of the holidays. The fourth grade pod is decorating the hallway in a winter wonderland theme. I will post pictures when completed. My class will be creating penguins to for the theme.
I love this time of the year and began decorating my home and classroom! I hope and pray everyone has a joyful and peaceful holiday season!

The students sampled three types of popcorn and decided which one they liked best. They each made a bar graph of the class data.

The students worked in cooperative learning groups and created a diaroma solar system. They included the sun, planets, other stars, astriod belt, and comets.

I am enjoying my classes this school year. The students are enjoying math and science! In math they are creating bar and line graphs. They are learning the phases of the moon in science and the solar system. They conducted several investigations designed by AIMS. They will be designing a diaroma on the solar system in the next week. I use a variety of resources to teach my students and one is technology. They went to the computer lab and conducted a Thinkquest. In the next few weeks I will post some pictures of their projects.

The students are learning about electricity in science. They have made a simple circuit using a battery, wire, and light bulb. They found out it took 10 D cell batteries to light a regular light bulb. When they made a prediction they guessed it would take 1-5 batteries. Next the students tested materials to see if it was a conductor or an insulator. They learned conductors allow electricity to flow through and insulators do not. The students will be learning about different types of circuits and electrical safety.

This school year the 4th grade classes will have 32-34 students per class. I am going to spend most of the first week of school teaching rules and procedures. The students will receive an agenda where I will post daily conduct and notes when needed. Parents, please help me this year by encouraging your child to follow directions the first time given. The students will have a successful year if we work together.

It is my goal that every child will have a wonderful school year! :)

The students created polygon art using different geometric shapes. Tell them what you think. The students are very creative and they enjoyed this activity.
