When we consider the system of Absolutism (Kings and Queens with absolute power based on Divine Authority) I wonder about a system of nationalism (pride for your country). Today England and a few others still have a Constitutional Monarchy. England has a Queen that is only given a position of historical significance.

She has no real power. She has teas, gives speeches, does charity and yet she is the richest woman in the world. She has several homes (castles) and paintings, sculptures, and horses (all which are 1 of a kind, rare and or priceless!)

She has a life already, a life of a Queen!! She is paid by the taxpayers as is her family members. She is the Queen. A woman who is from the line stemming from William the Conqueror.

Does this system have any merit (importance) in governing? Does this system have a purpose that can not be filled with someone rich who can do charity or give good speeches? Why did the Colonist want to separate from the system of Monarchs?

I personally think Monarchs were part of our path to Democracy!

I do think that Queen Elizabeth has merit and meaning. She represents the country even though it is run off of a constitution. Also, having a figure like Queen Elizabeth gives the citizens a sense of nationalism. She is there to represent the country and to make it look good. She also serves as the model of a queen for historical significance and to show that the true roots of the country are important.

This system in my opinon has no importance.

It can be filled by someone who is rich and does charity or gives good speeches but it should be filled by a person that also knows how to run a society.

The queen and king are born into being leaders and its not that fair because other people who do give charity and drink tea they arent rulers. No one really knows if they are a good leader until they become the King or Queen. Its different because in our society people get elected because they prove themselves to be a good leader.

This system has no purpose to us, but it is a symbol to England because it reminds them of their past. It can be filled by some rich person who can do charity work and give speeches but then there would be no purpose at all in having a Queen/King. That would take away all of the significance of it.

I think that this system works very well for england, which it has for a very long time. I think that the colonist wanted to separate from the system of monarchs because they didnt feel like it was fair. Which is understandable because not everyone is always going to agrree.

You are right Jaren, the colonists did separate because most were 2 generation Americans already and had no tie to England and King George the V.

Bryce states something very interesting : Significance of it

What is the significance of a Monarchy to England past and present?
IF we had a poll back in time would it show that 80% of the people loved their King because they did, or would they tell the truth? Fear makes some people National Kyle. IF I am afraid of consequences of those with great power or authority over me, I am sure to be outwardly supportive, but privately, did King and Queens really have the love of their people?

Thus the word Absolutism. Why did they need to be in total control of everything if they were significant to the people or country?

I think it is a status symbol of historical value, Iconic, necessary for tourism and identity today. But what do you think?

I agree with Kyle and Bryce. I think that the Queen is really important to the English people. She represents their history and where they have come from. In a lot of ways, she is like an american movie star or sports icon. Her position is valued by her people and she is a symbol of hope and stability. While I don't think that their system would work in the United States I see nothing wrong with the English royalty.

Tell me why you think Queen Elizabeth I is so good for England.

Yes she is the Tourism money maker. The family provide Tabloid news on a regular and sometimes spectacular basis. She promotes horse racing and charitable causes. She looks Queenly and her grandsons are the very popular to many young women in the world.

But, does she make a living the way many have to?

Does she provide political or religious leadership?

Does the Queen influence the world's economy or England's reputation in international affairs.

I love the Royal family news and Princess Diana is someone who I truly felt did some real good in the world for many people.

What kind of support do those of you who have blogged provide to support, really factually support your opinion that Bryce or Kyle or anyone is right or wrong?

I want to read some real opinions that are not just statements of agreement.

    You have plenty to say!

I think that the colonists had good reasons for why they wanted to leave. The monarchy system is when a ruler has complete control of government and law. The ruler can make laws regardless of what there citizens think. The ruler can convict you of crimes without letting you voice an opinion or getting a trial. Then there was the major conflict of taxation without representation. With all these things restricting the colonists I can see why they wanted to get away from it all.

I think that the colonists wanted their land to be goverend by their people, not someone over seas. I also think that its important that England has a queen because every country needs a leader. That leader does not necessarily have to have full power just the power to speak to and motivate the people.

I think the system is only good for the people that been with the system for awhile. People who doesn't do that like Americans would differ because we're use to having our own ideas and opinions. Even though Queen Elizabeth 1 is a historical person and an important person to England, she doesn't really have a say in the government at all.

I agree with Brynn! The Queen is their role model and symbolises what their country has gone through...like Brynn said she is like our sports, or movie stars here. I also agree with Jaren... how they wanted to get away from the system of monarchs because it wasn't truely fair!!!

Again, why do you agree with her or him! Support your agreement with your own facts!! That means you better look up something to support why you and they think the Queen is important, needed and significant

OR NO HOMEWORK GRADE FOLKS!! YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO BLOG!

IF I POSED A QUESTION ABOUT FASHION, DRUGS OR ANY PART OF TEEN DRAMA YOUR OPINIONS WOULD BE FLYING!!! GITTER DONE GOMERS!!!

I think that the reason why we don't Rulers so we can all be free from kings and queens thats why its called AMERICA!! But we do have Colonists to help prove that we are good leaders

I think that it did lead us to democracy but on the other hand whats making them kings and queens? Sure their bloodlines but thats it. How do you know that the next king is straight in the head. They could easily go into war or even chaos! The king isn't royal because he's smart or he has great ideas to help England he's royal because he was born in. But maybe having someone that is born in is a good thing England, as far as I know, isn't in an economic downfall or has as much gang violence or has as much poverty as we or any other country does.

I think that the only reason they still have a queen is because she is a symbol of a governing symbol. She gives speeches and donates to charities in order for the rest of the people to know that if they want to be like her they have to be outgoing and giving. In modern times they have gotten rid of kings and queens because the citizens do not have any say in what goes on with their country. This type of government is looked down upon now because it is so unfair.

No she does not have to make a living the way that many have to, thats why they are called king or queen. They live the life of one. Nowadays they barely have to make any decisions. The country is not run by them like it was during absolute power. They aren't the almighty king/queen like how they used to be. They are more of a symbol of England's past

I agree with Bryce, if we take a random person who has done an act of kindness it would take away from the whole purpose and value of becoming queen and like Brynn I don't think it would work in our country but in their country ir works our great!

Queen Elizabeth does not make a living the way many have to, but she does do a lot work. She has the pressure of leading England and making the right decisions that effect the entire country. I agree with Lauren that every country needs a leader. I think that a leader that is family of the leaders of from hundreds of years before is better than a random wealthy person speaking to a country and trying to convince them to do things. It is also easier to pick who is the queen or king because they just decide it from who is next in the family instead of having to choose someone out of thousands of people.

I think that the queen has great significance to her people. She is a symbol of power and history. She has priceless items that she acquired from past kings and queens. She is an important role in the society of England.

i agree with byrnn because she states how this system is helpful in England but here in the United States it wouldnt work as well. the way we do things here and have been doing things here is a lot different then the way things are done in England. England has a different way of looking at things, and running things. we have a president, they have a king and or queen. and when i think about it what does the king or queen even do ? they dont do anything like our president does. we have a president so he can run our country, but by the way i see it they only have kings and queens because they have had them in England for ages and ages, its kind of like a traditional type of a thing. they have kings and queens because every country needs a leader, kind of like what lauren said. Queen Elizabeth had an importance, but only to England.

I agree with bryce on this cuz it really dosent have a purpose they've just been doing it for so long why stop now. If thats what makes them happy them let them do it. They must be doing something for the people if they are paying the kings and queens and all them with their tax money . adan pd. 7

No, the Queen does not, by any means, have any say in politics. They are there not so much for actual political participation, but rather to remain as a symbol of power in the country.

i agree with bryce that they use it because they always have and if they didnt give speeches and do charity work then there would be no point to having a king or queen

well i agree that having a queen is important , because they need a leader and someone to be in charge ,but in the other hand its different system which we wont be able to agree with the system because it would be different since we are not use to it , because england has a whole diff system that we wont be able to agree even though queen elizabeth passed good laws to england and tried to be as fair as she could even though they still separte the monarchs

I think that just being from William the conquerors blood line would gain her followers. Sure, an average Rich person may be able to match her amount of money but they can't become part of her family tree unless you married her or one of her relatives. The reason that I think that she would get more support than your average Rich person is because of loyalty. There are still probably many people that have a strong loyalty or respect for her family. For example people like Sir Francis Walsingham from the movie we saw in class.
