POSTED AT 12:47 PM

The theme of our first unit in Reading is "Risks and Consequences".  Think about the stories we have read so far.

What have you learned about the theme?  Choose one of the following questions and respond to it.  Give an example. When is a risk worth taking?  Are there times when we must take a risk to help others?  Can it be risky to make new friends?  What would the world be like if no one took risks?

Yes, it is risky to make new friends because you don't know anything about that new possible friend, and it can be scary to walk up to someone and introduce yourself especially if you are shy.

There are times when you have to take a risk for others. If someone was in danger and you tried to save them that would be a risk becuase you could also be in danger and you could get hurt.

I think a risk is worth taking when it's for someone you care about and you try to help them.

When is a risk worth taking?

A risk is worth taking when someone or somthing is in trouble or being misused or mistreated. Also you should take a risk when somthing needs to be done or you know in your heart its absoulutley supposed to be done, If more people started to take more risks more people might be more sucessful and happy with what they can do.

Yes there are times when we must take a risk to help others because you might have to help a friend in need instead of soing something you need to do or you get in trouble.

A rist is worth taking when you need maybe to help somone. Like in Mrs.Frisbee and the Crow! Mrs.Frisbee saves the crow because the cat was going to get him even though she might not have made it away from the cat! That was really nice of Mrs.Frisbee!I really think that risks are mostly worth taking.

The world wouldn't be interesting, for example there wouldn't be astronauts. There wouldn't be Goodmorning America, or NBC. There wouldn't be those two things because no would do any exciting things for you to talk about. I also think there wouldn't be one of the most greatest discoveries in the world.

Mae Jemison took a huge risk. She traveled to space and was the first African American to do it. She took a risk nobody has done before. On her journey she found out that tadpoles can grow with no gravity no problem and if they used the biofeedback experiment it would cure space sickness. That was the same in the book Mrs. Frisby and the Crow. Mrs. Frisby had to take a risk to save the crow because the cat would pounce on both of them and attacked them. If people didn't take risks our world would be completely different.

If the whole world didn't have risks, we wouldn't have inventions, not many jobs, and we couldn't even know about the Moon or even Mars that we just discovered.

The would be safe and not as many inventions and people might not have has many jobs because some jobs are very risky. Like there might not have any tall buildings and cranes because they can be very risky.

If nobody took a risk than the Earth would still have millions of discoveries, and the bad part is that some risks come with consequences. Sometimes risks are worth taking because it can make a huge difference. Raising your hand in class is a risk. If you get the wrong answer than that's the consequence, or the consequence is getting emberrased. If there weren't risks, life would never be the same.

You have to take risks sometimes because in any situation that is bad you need to take risks to help settle everything down.

I have learned that it is sometimes good to take a risk because if you do you may get a good consequence. The one that I'm comparing it to is Mrs. Frisby and the Crow. Mrs Frisby found a .crow stuck to a fence and the she untangled him and a cat almost ate her, but in return the crow saved her from the cat and flew her back to her house. Then he said anytime you need me ask a crow to get me and I'll help you with what ever you need. Mrs. Frisby took a risk and it ended up saving herself! Sometimes a risk is worth taking a chance of getting hurt but if you are caring and you'd probably take the risk if your are brave. Usually when you take risks you really want to help someone or do something really bad so it is worth it. You take risks to get a good consequence. There are not always times when you have to take a risk but you should always think about others and take that risk so that your friend or that person does not get hurt. As long as no one can get in trouble or hurt it's worth a risk to help a friend. It is not risky to make new friends. It is a good way of being a kind person and being a nice person. Maybe the only risk would be if my friends didn't want me to have new friends because they may get mad I won't be able to play with them. Its really not a risk though because we can all play together. If no one in the world took risks there would always be people in danger and when you are a fireman or a police officer you have got to take risks every day of your life.

What would the world be like if no one took risks? Well I am going to make it plain annd simple. We would ALL be sissys. No one would be on thr moon. No one would be a rock star. And no one would go on the internet! It's just a good thing we aren't like that.

Yes it can be risky to make new friends becouse other kids may not like him/her and make fun of you for playing with that kid, or your other friend may not like him/her and stop being your friend becouse he does not like him or her. It can also be risky becouse the new kid may not have the same values as yourself.

What would the world be like if nobody took risks? It would not be good because how would we get to other places far away or just to the store. We wouldn't know about the planets either or the ice on Mars.We woudn't even have a president.

It is important to take risks so tou can learn from the risks you take and so you get little bit of challenge and sometimes it is interesting

I think it can be risky to make a new friend example: You are new to school and you don't know anyone's personality you might try to make a friend with someone you may not like. That is why I think it is risky to make a friend.

it can be worth taking risks sometimes like if your friend is getting made fun of it could be good to stick up for them because if you don't and you say ,"hey, stop making fun of him." they might stop and go away but it is risky because they might say,"Hey, it's nerdboy's side-kick the amazing dufus." or something and then you would both be sad.

It is worth taking a risk when there is something important, special, or if someone could get hurt if you don't help. For example, I would rather take a risk and get a home-ed than have someone tell me the answers on my homework.

The world be very dull if no one took any risks. It might also have a lot of problems. The important people like the president might think it would be a risk to change some laws and make the country a horrible place because he/she won't take any risks. If no one took risks are history might be different.

If nobody took risks the world would be very different. If Martain Luther King Jr. hadn't taken a risk black people would still be treated very badly. If Niel Armstrong hadn't taken a risk than he would not have been the fist spaceman on Earth. So, now you know what the world would be like if nobody took risks.

I have learned that sometimes taking a risk can pay off more than how risky the risk is. A risk, in my opinion, is worth taking if the the risk is small, but the outcome of it can pay off, or just make you feel good. I have two examples. The first one is that my family and I were at a resteraunt and my brother told me that if I ate a scallop, he would give me three dollars, so I ate it. It turned out to be sorta good. My second one has happend to everybody, with both outcomes. You raise your hand in class to tell your teacher what you think the answer to a problem is, and two outcomes can happen: one, you can get the answer really wrong and get laughted at. Two, you get the hard answer correct, and become someone's idol (okay, maybe not that big, but you get the point).

Are there times when we must take a risk to help others? Yes because what if your best friend was about to fall off of a bridge that was 50 feet above the ground and hurt them self because I don't want my friends getting hurt that much. I'd help them evan if I would fall off the bridge to take that risk and they might think your their hero for the rest of there life.

What would the world be like if no one took risks? I think the world would have a lot of unanswered questions. For example, what is space like? We have learned a lot about the earth and our universe because astronauts took a risk to travel into space. Since astronauts have traveled in space we know a lot more about our atmosphere and how the earth orbits, these things help us to understand our weather system ansd other things about our earth. This is a good example why it's important to take risks because we can learn more.

Some risks are worth taking like for example I know we havent finished this part in Heat but the kids and uncle Temo are taking a risk showing that guy that the have a relative but not a parent and they dont want people to know that they are living with out any grown up.

Also risks are worth taking when some one(that you trust)says you should. Then it'll be worth it!
