Which summer reading book would you recommend to classmates? Explain why.
I would recommend My Sister's Keeper. It has an interesting storyline that makes you want to keep reading, and the plot twists only make things more interesting. What happens in the book makes you stop to think about what really is the right thing to do. Also, it gives you an idea of how big of an impact cancer can have on a person or family. All in all, it's a pretty good book.
i would recommend Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult because the novel focuses on the topic of high school shooting. hence, if you are interested in crime and violence, the working of human behavior then this is the book. it is easy to read (not so many complicated vocabulary). it is one of those books that is suitable for pleasure readings, and once you start reading it, you will not want to stop because the plot and characters are just so realistic.
i would recommend reading memoirs of a geisha by arthur golden. This book transport you to a completely different world. There is no opinion or persuasion in the book. it simply presents a culture and allows you to form your own opinion on the way the culture functions. I would also recommend watching the movie after reading the book because there are things described in the book that you cannot fully absorb without seeing it with your eyes. the colors and dances must be seen to grasp th total experience.
I would recommend Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The story shows that its never too late to amend a wrong one has committed or correct a mistake from the past. The negative characteristics and feelings of the protagonist, cowardice, regret, selfishness, is something everyone has at least once experienced and this story explores that.
I would recommend Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. The book is unlike any of the other books I read over the summer. It puts life into perspective for everyone. Personally, I used to take many things for granted like being able to walk and even breathe. But looking at Morrie’s situation and advice, I learned to cherish the little things in life that make it worth living. There were times when I would complain that I’m not the fastest runner or something but I’m thankful now with what I have. Morrie teaches many great lessons that we can carry with us for the rest of our lives. For example, he teaches us that material possessions are useless and are not necessary for happiness. A very short book, but the meaning stretches much farther.
I would recommend The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The Kite Runner is a captivating story that the reader never wants to put down at any point. Its major twists and turns leave the reader speechless. I also thought the book was nostalgic at times, something I loved about it the most. The Kite Runner is a story that goes deep into the topics of friendship, love, hatred, and guilt. No one should miss out on this book!
If I had to recommend any book that I read over the summer it would have to be A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. IShmael Beah tells an agonizing account about a civil war he was forced into at the mere age of twelve in Sierra Leone. At thirteen, he was recruited into the Sierra Leone army where he was introduced into the world of drugs and violence. This outstanding novel puts the reader into the shoes of Ishmael and you cannot feel anything but sympathy for what he has been through. You see violent struggles that are occuring in the world and how little help is provided from powerful nations such as the United States. Once you have read this book, you will not look at the world the same way again.
My reccomendation for a book I read over the summer would be The Memory Keepers Daughter because the book really explores human emotions and the power behind keeping secrets. It also follows many characters whose paths entertwine instead of just one main character. Its a great book and you'll keep reading till the end even if its a little saddening.
I would recommend The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner. While the movie is excellent, it cannot compare to the emotions conveyed in the book. This is truly an inspiring story especially when you take into account Chris Gardner's childhood which the movie does not detail. This book had me hooked from the first page until the very end. After reading it I had a sense of my own fortune and a realization of what I could accomplish in my life, causing me to work harder.
Out of all the books that I read this summer, I would recommend My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The author takes such a controversial issue is able to create a powerful and thought provoking story. The way in which Picoult writes from all the main characters' points of view allows the reader to build a connection to each and every character and feel as though they are real people. This simply makes the book even more personal, causing an emothional response out of anyone who reads it, not just me, who is expected to cry at any sad part of a book or movie.
