Mr. and Mrs. Ascone are trying to build a new bedroom. They go to the store to order carpet, and they know the square feet of carpet they need is 240 square feet. When they go order it, the Carpet Man tells them he also need to know the length, width, and perimeter of the room to make the perfect cut of carpet. Mrs. Ascone remembers that one of the walls they measured was 16 ft long.

Is there enough information here to figure out the missing width? (Can you save the Ascone family a trip back home to measure the other wall again?)

If so, what is the missing width? What is the perimter? Answer these two questions by clicking "Add an entry" below. Make sure to include your first name only!

    Yes, it is enough because I know the square footage and the length. In order to find the width I'd divide the length by the sqare footage- 240/16=15. That makes 15ft. the length and the perimeter is 62ft.

    the missing with is 30 and the perimeter is 96

    Yes there is enough information. The missing width is 15. 15 times the length of 16 length = solution which in this case is 240. The perimeter is 62.

    It is not possible to figure out the missing width. You can't figure out the perimter because they don't tell you if the room is square or not.

    15 ft. and 64ft.

    I think the answer is 15 ft because 240 divided by 16 =15.

    yes you could find out the width by 240{area}divided by 16{length}. The width is 15 feet. The perimeter is 15x2 and 16x2 = 30 + 32 = 62 feet.

    W=15 ft. P=62 ft.

    IT IS POSSIBLE
    THE MISSING WIDTH IS 15 FEET
    I FIGURED IT OUT BY DIVINDING THE AREA 240 FEET BY THE LENGHT/WIDTH 16 FEET AND GETTING 15 THE MSSIND LENGHT/WIDTH

    There is enough information. width=15 ft perimeter= 62 ft

    There is enough information. The missing width is 15 units. The perimeter is 62 units

    You can find out the height, width and length of the carpet by doing 240 divided by 16 which is 15 which is the other side. Then you do 15 times 2 plus 16 times 2 which equals 62 which is the perimeter.
    Area=240
    Height=16
    Width=15
    Perimeter=62

    P=62ft
    width=15ft

    Yes, there is enough information to solve the width. You can do 240 divided by 16 which will give you the width (5).So the missing width is 5 feet. The perimeter is 42 feet.

    The missing width is 15ft because 240 divided by 16 is 15. The perimter is 62ft because 15+15+16+16=62

    w=15ft.

    p=62ft.

    1. Width= 15 how: Square Feet divided by length= width , which is 240:16=15
    2. perimeter= 2*length + 2*width= (2*16)+(2*15)= 64

    yes you can figure out the other wall without having to go back and measure it. You divide 240sq.ft by 16ft to get the length of the other wall (15ft). the perimeter is 62 ft. yay!

    The other width is 15 and the perimeter is 62 (15x2=30 + 16x2=32).

    The perimeter of the room is 62 square feet. The missing side is 15 because 15 times 16 equals 240 square feet.
