Stephen King's "The Body" later became the film "Stand By Me."  Fitzgerald's short story became a blockbuster "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - so many short stories have been turned into wonderful films.

Sometimes, however, films do NOT get the book right.  For example - when I was a kid, I was really disappointed in the cartoon film versions of The Hobbit and Return of the King.  If anyone's seen these, you know what I'm talking about.  "The Lord of the Rings" ("middle" cartoon in the series..) was amazing because it was directed by someone else.  It's from this "middle" cartoon that Peter Jackson pulled his inspiration.  It's as if he felt the same frustration as I had years ago and wanted to make things right.

Have there been any movies that totally got it right (based on a book) or totally got it wrong?  Please share your thoughts here!

I have read the book "Band Of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose and later saw the movie series. I thought it was amazing. It followed mostly everything they could put on film. Another film I have not been so pleased wigh is the movie Earagon. In the book it seemed completly differnt. I was not pleased with some of the changes they did in the film.

I thought the movie Eragon did a good job at following the storyline of the book... Although the death of a cretain someone(not gonna give it away) was changed, it was necessary to fit the time frame.

The book Eragon was very good and i liked it a lot. When i heard they were coing out with a movie i couldn't wait. When i saw the movie it was nothing like the book they were missing key battles that i thought were important in the book. They were also missing some inventes that happened that kept going into the second book. These events that were forgotten in the movie were later important in the second or third book, so if they want to do a movie on the second or third book they have to leave out these important events.

my favorite film adaptation of a boook would have to be the never ending story. I love the books and the movie was just as good, it was always a favorite of mine hwen i was little and the movie was even better. The characters seemed realistic and where just as i pictured them when i read the story as a little kid.

I read the whole Twilight series and they were pretty good. My friends couldn't wait for the movie so I decided to see it. I thought the Twilight movie was horrible. A lot of people loved it but I just couldn't get into it. I thought the acting was bad and the plot was dry. The book was definetly better than the movie.
