Your homework is to do two things...

1) Check out this website and read the section on "DENSITY" (You do not have to read about buoyancy, but you are more than welcome to do so. Here is the link  http://www.visionlearning.com/library/module_viewer.php?mid=37

2) After reading the article you should answer the following question to the best of your ability.

"Based upon your reading; what do you know about density? What did you find the most interesting about density?"

This is due on Wednesday 10/7/09

See you soon!

    Hi,
From reading the passage on density, it means to me is the property of matter that describes the degree of compactness of a subtance. For example how much an object can hold. The most interesting about density to me is that it tells how much an object can hold.
    That is all!!!!!!!!!!!

Density is how closly packed atoms are in a single object. (In other words: How solid an object is.)

Just adding on to my answer for part 2.
I think that the most interesting thing about this article is that Archemides ( hope I spelled it right) figured out density with 2 crowns and a bathing pool, and that was just his experiment! :3

Density is the amount of space something takes up like the water in the bathing pool.Density can also take up alot of space with little things like the feathers and the bricks. What I found most interesting about density is that density can be measured in prety much anything like books, bricks, computers, water, cheese Jake McGrath:)

Hi people of internet and beyond! Based on the reading, I know that density is the amount of space that an object takes up. For example, if you had a cracker, and you split it in half, then each half of the cracker would take up the same amount of space. One thing that I find interesting about density is that if you split something in half, each half will take up the same amount of space. See you next time, and happy blogging!

Based on the article I learned that density is what something really dense takes up more space takes up less space than something really dense. What I found most interesting is that density was discovered around 250 b.c.

    Density
the Greek mathematician Archimedes was given the task of determining whether a craftsman had defrauded the King of Syracuse by replacing some of the gold in the King’s crown with silver.thought about the problem in a pool. He noticed that the water was over flowing. The amount of water that spilled was equal in volume to the space that his body occupied. A fact suddenly provided him with a method for making a mixed silver and gold crown from a pure gold crown.Archimedes placed the craftsman’s crown and a pure gold crown of equivalent mass in two tubs of water. Legend has it that Archimedes was so excited about his discovery that he ran naked through the streets of Sicily shouting "Eureka! Eureka!"Archimedes had used the concept of density to expose the fraud.

I knew that density had something to do with how tightly atoms were packed (I did an essay on atoms last year). I thought that the thing about the golden crown taking more water out of the tubs than the mixed crown was the most interresting.

i now know that density is how much compact and how solid a solid is. i thought that the chart was interesting. i also thought that that guy running around the streets saying EURIKA! was very um....... interesting.

I cant weight to start the density lab. i think density has to do with volume mass and the amount jogf preshure an objecrt has built up because when arcumedias sat in the pool all the water spilt out of the pool and that could be from preshure and weight wich both have to do with mass.

Density is basically how tightly packed the atoms are in an object. It is measured by g/ml and g/cm3.
I found it interesting that to see if something has more density by putting the two objects you are testing in a two similar bowls of water with the same amount of water in each bowl. whichever bowl loses more water, that object has more density.

    What have I learned?
Archimedes used the concept of density to expose the fraud
Density is a physical property of matter that shows how closely atoms of an element are packed together (or molecules of a compound are)
The more tightly the pieces of the substance are packed together, the denser the object is.
    Density is Mass/Volume
Density is easy to confuse, many items that people think of as "light" or "heavy" DON’T have different masses, but they DO have different densities.
I found a lot of things that interested me in the article about density but the thing that interested me the most was the story about Archimedes and the crown and the king. But the thing I found most interesting when learning about density was that if the objects are light or heavy they don’t have different masses, but they DO have different densities.

Based upon what i read, i know:

~ That Density is the mass divided by the volume.
~Density is an intensive property of matter that is defined as the ratio of an object's mass to its volume.
~ Density also had obreviations which include g/cl and g/cm3
~ Things like light and heavy do not have a mass, but they do have different densities.
~Density is a physical property of matter that describes the degree of compactness of a substance
~Since different substances have different densities, density measurements are useful for identifying substances.
~ The more closely packed together the individual particles of a substance are the more dense the substance will be/is.
~Density is also a concept that we can get confused with easily.
~ A Common unit used to express density is grams per milliliters.

The most intresting thing i haved learned from reading this article, is that different substances have different densities, density measurements are useful for identifying substances.

    Density

This is the Scientific Definition of density.

Density is a physical property of matter that describes the degree of compactness of a substance, in other words how closely packed together the atoms of an element or molecules of a compound are. Density is an intensive property of matter that is defined as the ratio of an object's mass to it's volume.
    Density=Mass/Volume
Archemedes descovered how to use the method of density in about 250 B.C.

This is my understanding of density.

Density is how cloesley packed together atoms are in a certain objects and materials.
    Everything has density!!!!!!

I know that desity is the thickness or compaction of an object. It can be misinterpreted as light or heavy and it is based on the amount of atoms an object contains. If molecules or atoms are closer together, then the object will become denser. It is primitely a combination of volume and mass, and even if an object has the same mass of another, Something that I found inter-esting about density was that it doesn't matter if an object has the same mass of another, it can still have a considerably different density. Also, it seemed as if Arcimedes was performing the scientific method:he observed that the same amount of water came out of the tub when he went in, then he most likely thought, I wonder if the same thing would happen to help me prove the King's crown is a fraud? Arcimedes' hypothesis was the silver measures more space than gold with the equivelent amount, so he tested his hypothesis by putting two crowns: craftsman and gold (variable)and equivelent cups of water (constants). After the hypothesis Acrimedes analyzed his results by noticing the most water submerged to the top because silver has more volume. Acrimedes communicated his results by telling the king and proving the craftman wrong.
