I really love science. I'm not sure why, because nothing in my childhood made me particularly interested in it. My mom was a school librarian, so it's not like we were out dredging ponds and hunting under rocks all the time. However, for as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by living things; I do love looking in ponds and turning over rocks and rotting logs. I love to discover things; to explore, to experiment, and to figure things out. Perhaps it's a personality trait, or perhaps there was something that I did when I was a child that planted a seed in my mind.

One reason that I love science is because I think that the world around us is amazing! We have glow-in-the-dark jellyfish, trees that live to be thousands of years old, there were dinosaurs here in Massachusetts! Everything is made of chemicals, and the interaction of these chemicals result in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and our own bodies! I find it amazing that we can describe the motion of objects around us using mathematical formulas, and that energy transfers allow for all of that motion. Just about everything and anything can be connected to science, including the shape of a person's nose, the swimming behavior of guppies, the pollution produced by our cars, the change of season, and the distinctive behavior of adolescents!

Now, I know that not all of you love science, and that is okay...for now. One of my goals is to help foster a love of science in at least a few more of you. What I'd like for you to do right now is to tell me a little bit about how YOU feel about science. Your answer should be three to five sentences long. Please be honest!

When it comes to science, I have many mixed thoughts and beliefs. Though it may not be my favorite subject to study (which by the way it's actually my worst), I find most of it very intriguing. For example, astronomy has always been one of my interests as my mom has a huge telescope in our attic at home. Almost every night she'll go up there and take a look at the night sky, and occasionally I will go up there to observe as well. Also, living on Mill Pond has definitely made an influence on my interest in science. It's amazing what can be seen! There are great blue herons (which I personally believe are the most beautiful birds out there), swans, Canada geese, painted and snapping turtles, and of course, numerous families of ducks. In conclusion, science is a very fun and fascinating topic, and I'm sure that I'll have a blast this year in class.

I think science is "ok". Some topics I really just don't find interesting, like astronomy. On the other hand, I enjoy studying topics like animals and plants which include plant and animal cells. I am excited to see all of the topics that we will be studying!

I think that science is a very interesting subject. While it may not be my favorite, it changes the way I look at the world around me. Science has also helped me understand others more as well. The rational, logical way of thinking that comes with being a scientist has helped me understand why certain people act the way they do. It's also helpful in dealing with a diverse group of other subjects, such as animals, cooking, and music, to name a few. All in all, I think science is an important part of our lives, even though I may not be too fond of it.

Science is fun to me when we get to do expiriments. My least favorite part of science is doing work out of a science book.I really hope that we get to do a lot of expiriments this year.

In my honest opinion I like science. Science is a challenge for me but I like a challenge. In science I dont like some of the subjects such as: earthquakes and volcanoes, storms and hurricanes, fossils, and other subjects.

I think that science is intresting in some cases. For example I dont find planets and space very exciting, although I enjoy learning about genetics. I dont know why I dont like science, my dad also taught science and people usually think I would.

I dont really like science. Even though i dont like science the labs are pretty fun. Science is not one of my most favored subjects

I like science for the most part, especially hands-on labs. A lot of what you said was really interesting, and when you really think about it, most stuff does circle back to science. Astronomy is really cool also, I like learning about the planets. I really like learning about animals, too.

To me science is a very interseting subject. Some topics I like more than others, and the ones I don't like as much, still aren't that bad. Last year I loved learing about the human body and the protista/bacteria units. I am also very excited to study herditiy!

I think science is somewhat boring on some subjects but can also be very interesting. I find that science is a difficult subject to learn.I don't see the need to study and learn some of the material if I am never going to use it later on in life.

  • Emily Webster

I think some aspects of science is very interesting. For example, I think how the human body works is so amazing because it has all these different systems working together to help you function. However, I do not think talking about the different types of rocks and the earth's core and that kind of science very is very intriguing.

I enjoy science and am looking forward to science this year. I want to be a doctor when I get older. I need to learn science and biology in order to become a doctor.

In geneal, I like science. I like to learn about astronomy and the human body. My favorite system for the human body is the skeletory system. I don't like ecology or zoology. I like cellular biology as well. I also like microbiology.

I like science, but not everything about science. I'm really interested in MOST mammals (dogs, horses, dolphins, and whales to name a few) and their behaviors. Why they act certain ways and how they react certain ways to different situations. Almost anything about animals gets my attention. ALMOST anything. When I was little I helped my dad in his veggie garden, so that kinda explains my semi-passion or gardening. I can't sit in the dirt for hours and be perfectly content, but I do enjoy watching the plants grow and change.

So I DO like science, just not everything under the science category.

I don't really like science that much but it has always been a class I get good grades in and don't hate. In science I always like doing labs and projects much more that paperwork and boring things. There are just things in science that I like a lot more than other things. For example I didn't like the The Kingdoms last year but I did like astronomy more. Thats what I like about science.

As a little kid I would always go around looking for toads and salamanders under rocks, so that sort of got me into science. After looking at some biology stuff I realized I liked physics and chemistry more. So then I got a Bill Bryson book which was pretty much a general book of science. This book and "The Way Things Work" got me very interested in science.

You're right, it is very odd that you have grown up to be a scientist, despite the lack of science you experienced in your childhood. Maybe some people were simply meant for the field of science. Those facts that you listed were very interesting, and I never would have guessed that some trees live to be thousands of years old! Coming into 8th grade, I don't absolutely love science but I am interested in it and would love to learn some new, interesting things. Hopefully you can make me like science even more than I do now.

I feel that science is a very important subject and is all around us. Some of my favorite topics in science are astronomy, electricity, and nature. The only topic I dislike is cells. Overall science has been one of the most exciting class's to me over the years.

I find science to be somewhat interesting, depending on the topic. I like hands on activities done as labs. I do not like to answer questions from the textbook or to take long notes. I think seeing a movie on topics gives me a better understanding of things.

I find science with nature and living things more interesting than astronomy and chemical reactions. I love nature and animals so I perfer to learn to discover facts about those topics. Though Hands-on science experiments are usually fun too! Hopefully this year I will enjoy more topics than I have in the past.

Science is not my favorite school subject, and I am not the best in science either. My favorite science topic is astronomy and i probably do the best in that topic as well. Sometimes I do enjoy science and it is fun.

Hi. I also love science, but not all of it. I am really into astromony and learning about how spefic things work, like the body for an example. Although i am not into chemistry. I see that it is important to learn, but i find it boring and sometimes annoying. To me chemisty can get a little to close to math, like im good at math but i like to keep it in math class and not in science class. Well I am looking foward to a good year.

I have mixed feelings about science classes. This is because some days we do labs and group activities which to me, are more fun. However, other days we do worksheets, reading and tests, which i dont find very fun. Though i get that science will help in the future, it is not my favorite class now but you never know in coming years.

Cool! I honestly don't have a favorite class (yetSmile) so science is pretty evenly ranked with the others. My favorite part of science is probably rocks, minerals, and gemstones. I would love to do a lab on gems, using microscopes or something...! I usually enjoy doing labs, but they are not usually my strongest skill. Science is pretty cool, so I can't wait to find out what's in store for us this year!!!

Science, to me, can be boring if it is lectured. If I am doing an actual hands-on experiment, I feel that I am more likely to learn more from the activity. When it comes to what subjects I like, it is mostly space, astronomy, etc. I do feel science is very important, along with math because those are involved with engineering.

Well Mrs.Finnerty i also enjoy looking under rotted logs and rcoks and animals, because i like right by a swamp. I learn alot about living things because where i live tehre is alot of trees and deer and animals that trvael through my yard. when winter comes i love walking around the year and looking at the animal footprints and then i can attempt to indentify them.

Science is probably my 2nd favorite subject. I too am amazed how everything around us is made and involved with science. I am thinking about become a genetic engineer when I grow up. Nothing has really pushed me toward this except a show called superhumans on discovery where specific humans with amazing abilities are featured, and their talents are shown.

To be honest, science has never been one of my favorite subjects. When we do labs and things that involve working together I don't really mind it. When it comes to worksheets and the science text book, science is not really my thing. Maybe through the year, I will feel stronger of this subject and enjoy it as well.

Science really doesn't interest me to much, one reason is because the career I hope I turn out doing doesn't really doesn't involve school science. Also because it doesn't come across interesting. But hopefully this year will be a little fun.

I don't really like science, because a lot of it involves math. The parts that don't involve math are fun, and I like lab work a lot. I enjoy when I get to work with people and we figure out a problem together. I also think that hands on experiments allow me to learn material quicker then reading about information. I'm not sure wether I like science or not. It mostly depends on what the unit is. I enjoy looking through microscopes, oceanography, environmental science, and astronomy. They all interest me because there are things that have not been discovered or there are mysteries in them. Like, what else is in the ocean?? And if there is other life in space, what else is there and have they visited planet Earth before?
