Anne believes that she is changing as a person during her time in the Annex. Anne thinks that she is differnent because now she wants to start afresh and get to the bottom of why every one is saying unkind gossip. Also Anne thinks that she neutral sayinmg that both families have their problems that need to be fixed. She used to think that the Van Daans were in the wrong, which I think means that they are the problem, so I think that Anne has changed as a person with her perspective of other people.

Anne is changing because she wants to know everything thats going on around her. Before she was calm and diddnent really care what was going on in the dark dark world.

    The question was:
Do you think Anne has changed as a person, a writer, or both?
    My answer:
I think Anne has changed at both. In the beginning of the unit, we talked about how Anne rewrote the beginning of her diary. I don't know if she has revised it up to the point I'm reading at, but that's why she has changed! I can't tell the difference between her more recent writing and her revised writing, so she did a good job to change her writing so much!
She changed as a person because when she first came to the Annexe, she was very close-minded, and she absolutely hated the Van Daans and in an argument would automatically go against them. Now, she can think more broad ideas, and she sometimes agrees with the Van Daans.

    My new question:
Does Anne's mood swings affect the way she is thinking about Lies, Petel, her grandmother, and the world?

On Saturday, January 15, 1944, Anne writes about the dissention in the Annexe but then adds that everyone needs to make the best of their circumstances. After she writes this, she states, "Now I'm preaching." What did Anne mean when she said she was preaching?

Anne is changing while in the Annex into more of a responsible person, an adult. she says about how she used to dislike the Van Daans and now she "wants to start afresh...wants to examine the whole matter carefully myself and find out what is true and what is exaggerated." She realizes the Van Daans weren't and aren't always to blame.

On page 147, it says the Germans would resort to flooding to defend the country. How would they flood Holland, and what good would it do?

Anne is thinking about all of the relationships in the Annex. She thinks about the "rows and arguments" and comes to the conclusion that they are pointless. She thinks that she has changed since her dream and that she is more independent and not as prejudiced. She starts to see that there are two sides to every argument and she admits that they have some blame in the arguments with the Van Daans.
Anne does seem to be changing as a person, and as a writer. Instead of just recording events and complaining about the others to Kitty, she seems to really be trying to understand them and using her diary to talk about her ideas about them.

This doesn't have to do with the entries in anne frank, but who exactly are Koophius and Miep Geis and what role do they play in the annexe because anne doesn't mention much about them.

I agree with zach R. because anne is starting to change her mind about other people and about the van daans and i too think she is changing as a person. she is changing her mind about alot of things now.

Anne thinks more about other people's opinions and thoughts (like the Van Daans). She says when they first moved into the Annex she only thought about the Van Daans as selfish and mean, but now she's thinking that she was too mean to them and saying that she understands their point of view. She is also trying not to fight with her mom a lot. Anne has also changed as a writer because she's using biggerwords more often (like beseeched, pensive, etc.).

Anne believes she is changing as a person because she starts seeing the arguing between her family and the Van Daans is poinless. She writes how she views her Mom and Mrs. Van Daan as equally responsible for causing arguments with each other. Unlike before, and she talks about the good and bad qualities in Mrs. Van Daan. Also, her feelings toward eveyone's anxiety about the invasion and flooding are different. She used to get anxious too, but now states she tries to take no notice and she "doesn't care much if she lives or dies." She writes about how she can't control the world and things will play out the way they were intended to be.

I think Anne has changed a lot as a person. She even says so on page 139. She finds herself as an "independent person". She also now seems to be falling in love with Peter. She also thinks differently of others and what they might be thinking.

I think Anne has changed as a person first, and that's why she changed as a writer. For example, in teh beginning of her diary, she writes about her everyday life, about school life, hobbies, boys, yak yak yak. You think she's just like everybody. But we don't know is her feelings, her passion, her irrations, etc. But when she gets to Secret Annexe, that's all she can talk about. In the beginning, I imagined her like the cheerleader girls from my ex-school in NJ. They were alway hanging around with each other, thinking they were so above anyone else. But when everything chages, like Anne moves, she's in a different enviroment, and therefore influenced differently. So, she doesn't really have any friends to express her feelings with, so (ta-da!) her diary is the replacement. (Of course, before Peter goes along.) It's like here. In New Jersey, I was one of those medium nerds. If you were a big one, you were admired. If you were a small, you could at least blend with the crowd. Medium ones were taunted at. But here in Maryland, it doesn't really matter. Everyone is different and has the storng and weak points. But, people don't shun you for this and that. They actually will go to you if they need help on what you are good at. That's how Anne has changed, and made me realize how I changed.

i think anne is changing as a person during her time in the annex. Her whole perspective on the world and people she knows has changed.

I think Anne is changing not so much as a person but a writer. She is becoming more involved in her writing and more openly expresses her feeling and opions where as in the beggining she was more timid and afariad to talk that way.

I agree with Shawn, before they went into hiding she only cared about went on in her little world. Now she is expanding her view and looking into thing that might affect her or is just going on.

Why does Anne seemso interested in sexual issues? Is it because her parents haven't told her about it and now she is finding it in books?>

I think Anne has changed as a person only, but it reflects that in her writing and that is why they are both different.

anne definitley has changed as a person. She is starting to talk about 'girl things' and boyfriends, i think she is trying to grow up and get older to make use of her time in the hiding place. she is also getting a lot moodier and at the same time starting to get closer with Mummy.

I forget what the word liberated means. And the way Anne uses liberated in the sentence makes it even more confusing. Does anyone have an answer?

In the beginning of the book Anne thought she was so popular but now when Anne is in the "Secret Annex" she is more modest and less self centered.

Tyler, when Anne first comes out of hiding (which she never does except for the concentration camp) I think she will want to see all her friends, family and, other people she knows and are close to her.

I think Anne changed as a person. She is becoming less kiddish and is more open to others including her Mom and Margot. She is trying harder to be more mature. She also is talking about a boyfriend (Peter, oooo)

I agree with you Tyler. She is changing and I see in her writing that she is using very particular wording and topics. Her writing is getting much longer too. Instead of small entrys the entry can go for 3-4 pages.
    WOW!!!

Is there a new blog for this week (week of 12/1)?

    12/2/2008 7:02:30 PM

Do we just blog on this for this week, or will there be a new one?

Question: Do you think that Anne is making up things to entertain herself sometimes in the diary?

  • Alicia ;)

    Kevin,

I think Anne is trying to be more of an average teen? I honestly have NO idea. It's just sad we have to go through a crazy stage soon. (gulp!) Believe, my sister went crazy until the last year of high school did she pull herslef back together. (But maybe she was mean because I was still little and annoying.) Maybe could someone explain the human mind of a teenager, I would be impressed and grateful.

    Tyler:
I think Anne would run around in the park or anywhere else outside when she first came out of hiding. She might play with her friends, too.

    Patrick:
I think Anne's mood swings affect the way she thinks about Lies, Petel, her grandmother, and the world because some days she's really mad so she states all of the negative things about the Annex members and other times she can be really happy and talk about the Annex members in a positive way. But now, since Anne is growing up, she thinks she is too negative or mean to some people (especially ner mom) and she talks more about positive things about them.
