Which of the above activites could you use estimation for? Which ones would need an exact answer? WHY? Answer in complete sentences and give examples.
You could use estimation for ordering pizza for your class and setting up chairs for an assembly. You would need the exact answer for saving money to buy an Ipod and counting votes in an election. You need the exact answer because if you estimated you woul not have the right number you would just be close. You could you estimation on those so you could round to about how many you need and you will be pretty close.
I think think that ording pizza for a class because you would have to estimate how much each person costs and hw many pizzas to buy
If I had to estimate for one of these, it would probably be setting up chairs for assembly. I would estimate this one because you do not need to know EXACTLY how many people are coming to the assembly, just a good idea of how many people are coming. Some people may end up coming, and some people may end up not coming.
I would say votes' for an election because you could end up with the same estimation for each candiate and when you normaly add or multipy then you get the correct anwser for voting
For the election you would need the exact anwser, and for the assembly you need to estimate because you can tie for the election if you estimate and you would have to count how many people are coming to the assembly.

But why, you ask? Well, estimating for chairs in an assembly would be much easier than having to count all the chairs out for everyone in the entire school! But of course, you need to get an exact number for elections, so you know how many voted for which person and you figure out which person got the most votes. You need to know how many people are in your class before you order pizza, so that's why you need an exact number. So, if you want to get an Ipod, you must figure out the price. That's how you figure out how much money you need to pay for the Ipod, and that's why you need an exact answer.
