I really like the book'The Tail of Emily Windsnap'.It is a fantasy book about a girl who is half mermaid half human. Emily lives with her mom on a boat (even though her mom is hydrophobic). Emily loves being a mermaid and meets a new friend named Shona who is one too. With a flick of her tail, and a new best friend, Emily will take her on a adventure she'll take you on an adventure you'll never forget.

A good book for you would be 'The White Giraffe.' It has a tragic beginning and is mostly set in Africa. It is interesting and the end was not what I expected. The author is Lauren St. John.

A book that I really like is 'Wings'. I still haven't finished it yet, but I already know that its a perfect book for someone like me. The main character is a girl named Tamisin Warner. Tam always knew she was odd. People teased her about her pointy ears and she got in trouble when she was little about her sparkly freckles ('spreckles'). On one dreadful Halloween, Tamisin sees strange creatures playing tricks on little kids. She tells her friend, but soon realizes that no one else can see them. Four years later, Tamisin grows a pair of wings! Her parents can't give her the answers she wants, but the new boy, Jak, seems to know more than he gives on. Like, why he was talking to one of the odd creatures Tam saw on Halloween. Or why cats or oddly attracted to him.

That's all I'm willing to give away, and all I have read anyway. 'Wings' is exciting, scary, magical, and very sweet.

I would recomend you to read 'The Lightning Thief'. It is a series and the main character,Percy Jackson, has to fight off monsters with his friends. He is very brave and the monsters disguise as humans to try and get him.

A book that I would recommend is 'Twilight'. Tiwlihgt is an exciting, and emotional book. In the book, there is a family of vampires, but no the normal, evil-i-will-suck-your-blood type vampire. The girl is this book, bella, soon finds that out as she becomes close with them. Bella lives in a normally bright and sunny town, and goes to visit her dad in Forks, the rainiest town in the US. There, she meets Edward, a handsom vampire, who she soon falls in love with, even if doing that could cost her her life. And a couple of times, she almost loses her life, and not just because shes in the presence of seven vampires. Again, this book is a very good book, and is part of a four book series. I hope that you read it, for I know that you will regret it if you don't. No, seriously, you will regret it.

I would recommend "Shooting the Moon". It's a book about Jamie Dexter; she and her brother, TJ, have always dreamed about going into the military, like their father, the Colonel. And when TJ turns down medical college for fighting, Jamie is thrilled. However, TJ's first letter isn't a letter; it's a roll of undeveloped film. After Jamie developes it, she realizes what war really means, and who her father, the man she idoled, is. This is my favorite book; it has comedy, sadness, and confusment wrapped up with the seriousness of war.

I would recommend 'The Shadow Thieves' because it is different from most other books. It's about this eighth grade girl who finds her self wound up in a trying to save the world with her British cousin. She ends up in the Greek underworld.Philonecron or Phil for short is the most vile, creepy, slimy god you've ever seen.

I enjoyed the book The Mysterious Benedict Society. It is a mystery/adventure about four gifted kids who embark on a spy mission to stop a man who has made a machine that when at full power can make people feel really irritable. They have to stop him before that happens, but remember, it's harder when you are just a kid.

'The Liberation of Gabriel King' is a really good book that I would recommend for Christmas break, because it's all about overcoming fears. In the book, you'll find a young boy named Gabriel King, who is "born chicken". He is scared of everything, including the 5th grade. His best friend, Frita Wilson tries to help Gabe face his fears, by making a list of all his fears, and hers. One by one, they conquer their fears, trying to finish the list by the start of 5th grade. This wonderful book is REALLY great, and as the summer of Gabe, Frita and the "fears" goes on, the friendship between the good friends becomes even better.

A great book for you to read is 'Leven Thumps' and the Gateway to Foo. This is a great book for you to read because it has a lot of unique characters. It also has a unique setting. It is the first book in a REALLY good series.

'I think you should read A Series of Unfortunate Events Book 4 The Miserable Mill. It is a book about three orphans named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Violet is fourteen years old, Klaus is twelve years old, and Sunny is an infant. The problem is that they are getting chased by the evil Count Olaf who is trying to steal their fortune.'

I think a good book that you should read over Christmas vacation is the 'Harry Potter' series. This series is fantasy. Harry, the main character, was almost murdered at the age of one. His parents were murdered.n He was the first wizard ever to survive the killing curse. For that he becomes famous among all wizards. Throughout the series he is being attacked be the wizard Voldemort. In every single book he barely escapes death. Full of detail and definitely a page turner.

I would recommend the book 'Were The Red Fern Grows' as a book for you to read over Christmas Vacation. My teacher read this book to me and my class was in 3rd grade. it is about a boy who lives in a poor family and he really wants two hunting dogs. This is a very good story because it is very strong and is very powerful.

A good book that you should read is 'Down the Rabbit Hole'.I think you would love this book because of the characters and the plot. The main character is Ingrid. She is a 13 year old girl who loves soccer and acting! One day she is walking home from one of her soccer games when she goes into the house of "Cracked Up Katie" She talks for awhile and then goes home. The next morning the headline of the newspaper was 'Katie Covak, Murdered"(or something like that) she tries to to figure out who is the murderer. This would be a lot easier if she hadn't left her cleats at Katie's. So now she has to get her cleats and figure out the culprit.

I think that a good book to read over Christmas vacation is (Thirteen) by Lauren Miracle. In this story a girl named Winnie is still getting over her best friend Amanda. After a long summer apart Winnie comes home from her sleep-away camp just in time for the first day of school. On the first day of school Winnie goes to lunch and finds Amanda sitting with the girls that they used to call "the snobs". The next day she finds amanda in the back of the school putting on makeup . On the third day of school she starts a food fight what is going on with Amanda????

I think a good book for you to read over Christmas vacation is Tangerine. (Tangerine) is a story about a family who has just moved to Tangerine county Florida. When this family moves to Tangerine strange things start to happen in Tangerine county, like sinkholes sucking down whole schools, lightning striking at the same time each day. This is a very exciting and well written story, that is definitely worth reading

Lynn teaches Katie to look farther than tomorrow. Then somthing happens to Lynn. Kate still must find somthing kira-kira (glittering) in her life. It is a great book!

Please disregard the post I made above; it was just for language arts class. This is the real post.

I would suggest "Shooting the Moon" by Frances O'Dowell. "Shooting the Moon" is the story of Jamie Dexter. Jamie has grown up in the military, both she and her brother, TJ, have dreamed of going to war like their father, the Colonel. But when TJ turns down medical collage for military, Jamie can't understand why the Colonel is unhappy. TJ's first letter isn't a letter, it's role of undeveloped film. Since Jamie knows TJ loves photography, (ascecially taking pictures of the moon) she learns to develop the film. As each roll of film comes, the more Jamie sinks into reality, and sees the Colonel as someone totally new; not the strong, confident man she thought was her father.
This is a wonderful book! O'Dowell wraps up comedy, tenderness, affection, loyalty, pride, and sacrifice with the seriousness of war. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars, and I can bet after reading this book, you'll hug your family a little tighter on Christmas.

All of Agatha Christie's 'Miss Marple's are insanely good books. They are all incredible murder mysteries that are solved by a frail little old lady with a mind like a meat cleaver: Jane Marple. Some of the books in the 'series' (its not really a series, just a bunch of books with the same herione) are:

    -A Murder is Announced
    -The Body in the Library
    -The Mirror Crack'd
    -Murder with Mirrors
    -Bertram's Hotel
    _4:50 from Paddington
    -A Caribbean Mystery
    -A Pocketful of Rye
    -Murder at the Vicarage

Those are all nine of the 'Miss Marple's, which have all been made into fabulous movies.

Another Christie hero is Hercule Poirot. He is a Belgian man, who is rather snobby, that solves mysteries of every kind. His books are a lot more suspensful than the Miss Marple's are, so I suggest reading Miss Marple first. Two of the Poirot mysteries ('Murder on the Orient Express' and 'Evil Under the Sun') have been made into pretty good PC games.

Agatha Christie is one of the most distinguished mystery writers of all time, known as the Duchess of Death and the Queen of Crime, and I suggest that you read her books!

One of the best books I ever read was 'Princess Academy' by Shannon Hale. I know that a lot of people don't like that book, but it is one of my favorites.

The star of this book is Miri Larendaughter, a fourteen-year-old girl living on Mount Eskel. Miri is very small for her age; she thinks she is useless. Her father won't let her mine linder in the quarry with everyone else, so Miri stays alone at home, tending to the house and goats.

One day, Miri and the rest of the village hear appaling news from the lowlander (the lowlands are the lands off of the mountain) king. His son, Prince Steffan, is looking for a new bride, and the preists of the creator god discovered that she will come from Mount Eskel. All girls aged twelve to eighteen will attend an academy to prepare themselves for a grand ball.

Miri believes that this is finally her chance to do something important. But soon her heart and mind conflict with her love for her mountain, her best friend, Peder, and her desire to be great.

'The Penderwicks' is a sweet novel that will take the winter chill out of you in a snap. The six Penderwicks: Mr. Penderwick, an absent-minded professor of botany; Rosalind, the oldest daughter, who mothers her younger sisters since their mother died a few years before; Skye, blue Skye, blue eyes. Skye Penderwick is smart, but a little bit bossy; Jane, the third oldest, is a fabulous author. The herione of all of her books is Sabrina Starr. The books are great, but sometimes Jane has too much fantasy in her real life, too; Batty is the youngest sister, four years old, and is always wearing Monarch butterfly wings. Hound Penderwick, the big, black, lovable dog, is Batty's best friend and protecter.

The Penderwicks go on a summer vacation to Arundel, what they think is a little tumbledown rental cottage. Instead, they find Arundel to be an estate, holding a stone mansion, and many rolling acres of beautiful gardens. There is still a cottage (colored the butteriest yellow ever), but the entire estate is owned by snooty Mrs. Tifton.

On the first day of three weeks at Arundel, Skye crashes into a boy. She thinks that he's some boy from the neighborhood, so she accidentally says some nasty things about Mrs. Tifton. The boy turns out to be Jeffery, Mrs. Tifton's SON!

To apologize to Jeffery, and restore the Penderwick family honor, Skye and Rosalind try to make Jeffery cookies. Skye almost burns down the cottage. That just leads to more and more misadventures, until Jeffery is finally friends with all of the Penderwicks.

While 'accidentally' eavesdropping on Mrs. Tifton and her nasty boyfriend, Dexter, the girls and Jeffery discover that they are getting married, then shipping Jeffery off to Pencey Military Academy!

In Jeanne Birdsall's first amazing novel, the Penderwicks try to help Jeffery through his problems, keep him away from fighting in the war, and have a great vacation! 'The Penderwicks' is definitely a worthwhile read!

(And watch out for the sequel, 'The Penderwicks on Gardam Street'!)

'The Frog Princess' is a hysterical beginning to 'The Frog Princess' series. Princess Emmarelda (Emma) is one of those not-princess-like princesses. People say she laughs like a donkey, and she knows that she really does. Her aunt Grassina is a witch who lives in one of the castle towers, and is really Emma's only friend. Emma's mother wants her to marry Prince Jorge, who is horribly snobby and barely knows that Emma exists.

To escape her mother and Jorge, Emma goes out to her favorite place: the swamp. In the swamp, she meets a frog who claims that he's an enchanted prince and asks her for a kiss. Emma, not knowing what she's getting herself into, agrees. Instead of the frog turning back into a prince, Emma turns into a frog!

The frog, who's name is Eadric, tries his best to teach Emma about the dangers of being an amphibian, while Emma protests about eating flies and swimming in swamp water.

In E.D. Baker's first-ever book, Emma and Eadric are thrown on a wild journey to find the witch who cast the spell, and not getting eaten by anyone.

E.D. Baker has also written the next books in 'The Frog Princess' series:

    -Dragon's Breath
    -Once Upon a Curse
    -No Place for Magic
    -The Salamander Spell

Very recently, she also wrote 'Wings' another wondrous tale!

A book that I read an enjoyed is called 'The Tale of Despereaux'. Despereaux is a tiny mouse with large ears who is quite unlike the rest of his family and friends. Despereaux doesn't want to eat the books that hold precious stories. He falls in love with the princess he is forbidden to be seen by.

The mouse council decides to be rid of Despereaux's danger and embarassment. They send him to the dungeon.

That is just the first tale. The second is about a rat who lives in the dungeon. His name is Chiroscuro. Roscuro wants light. He is attracted to the light of the match that Gregory the jailor holds. Another odd fellow like our dear friend, Despereaux.

The thrid tale takes a poor girl named Miggory Sow, who was sold to a man by her father, in trade for some food and cigars. Miggory Sow can't hear very well, for she had been clouted over the ears many many times.

Miggory Sow meets Chiroscuro, who convinces her to take him up to the princess and kidnap her.

The fourth and final tale takes all three of our stars. Despereaux soon discovers the kidnapping of his dear Princess Pea, and ventuers deeper and deeper into the dungeon to try and rescue her.

But the dungeon is dark and dangerous, a labyrinthn of dark tunnels. Can a below-average mouse save an exeeding-the-average human? Can Despereaux act like a knight and really be that brave?

Discover if there is such a thing as happily-ever-after in the Kate DiCamillo's Newbery Award Winning 'The Tale of Despereaux'

Hey this is about the Oprah thing. My idea for the letter was to write about Global warming and the polar bears. The polar bears are going onto the endangered list, and NEED our help! They have no voice, living way up in the cold, with some hunters being afraid of them, and maybe shooting them! 60% of Polar Bears live in Canada, and Hudson Bay's number of polar bears has dropped 22% since 1980!! That is NOT

Hey this is about the Oprah thing. I liked her idea for the school in Africa, but she spent WAY too much on ONE school! I mean, if I had that money, I would put it into something no one seems to pay attention to. Global warming and the Polar bears. They have NO voice, living way up North, with their homes melting before their eyes. We NEED to take action and stop whats killing the Earth and the polar bears, because we are the ones doing it! I mean, come on! Couldn't people just save energy and turn out the lights when they walk out of a room? Or turn off the water when they brush your teeth? Or ride the bus, or carpool to have less cars out on the streets polluting? Little things like that could help stop global warming, and help save the polar bears. I think that Oprah should spend her money towards building more "Green Houses" for families in need, and towards getting temorary homes for the 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears that there are left, because by the time our great great grand children get here, they might never see a polar bear, or even know what they are. So SERIOUSLY, take action, do something green, donate to some place like WWF(World Wildlife Foundation) that can help the polar bears, or in the next letter that you write to a super star, mention how important they are! And how polluting could kill not only them, but all of us!! SO GO GREEN!! NOW!!! DO IT!!!

A book that I would suggest to read over Christmas break is the first book in The Great Tree of Avalon trilogy 'Child of the Dark Prophecy', by T.A. Barron. It takes place in Avalon, a ginormous tree that is the world to the humans and creatures that are housed there. There are seven root realms: Stoneroot, Woodroot, Waterroot, Mudroot, Shadowroot and Fireroot. Then there's the upper trunk that no one has been able to explore just yet.

The Lady of the Lake made a prophecy telling about the Dark Child (the person destined to end Avalon), Merlin's heir (the person destined to save it), and a year where all of the stars go completely dark. In the Dark Year, both Merlin's heir and the Dark Child will be born. Seventeen years later, they will fight to either end or save Avalon.

Tamwyn is a boy that was born in the Dark Year and is now seventeen. He is homeless, always looking for a job. He is looking for his brother, Scree, whom he lost many years ago.

Elliryanna (Elli) is a Drumadian (religion) apprentice who is sixteen (just under the age of the Dark Child) and is embarking on a journey to find the Lady of the Lake with the nasty Llynia. Llynia will be the next High Priestess of the Drumadians soon, but she must find the Lady of the Lake first and talk to her about the saving and/or ending of Avalon and the terrible drought that all of Avalon is undergoing.

The cause of that drought is a sorcerer, who wants to rule Avalon. He found many, many slaves and forced them to make a dam, which stopped the waters of Waterroot from flowing to the rest of Avalon.

When Tamwyn stumbles upon Elli and Llynia (literally) he scares away the horses that were carrying both of the girls' supplies. Tamwyn and the hoolah (nasty, mischievious little creatures) that he had been fighting end up being their pack mules, and they journey to the Lady of the Lake with them.

Who is the Dark Child? Who is Merlin's true heir? What will be the fate of Avalon?

This book is suspenseful, but dignified, and one of the most absorbing books ever!
