Last week each science class took on a large project related to organizing and planning our garden.  One class selected the garden site and conducted soil tests.  Another planned the layout of the garden beds.  Another class designed a school composting program.  Finally, one class has been working on outreach, marketing, and fundraising.  The kids have done a fantastic job with these projects.  We have set Thursday, April 2nd, as DIG DAY (weather permitting).  We are asking that as many students as possible come to school with a digging shovel, with name clearly labeled.  By the end of they day, our goal is to have dug all of the 30 x 60 foot plot.  We will then need to add organic material (compost and manure...  anyone have some to share??).  And after the garden is rototilled, we will be ready to plant!  Our first plantings, during the week of April 6th, will be of peas, cold-hardy greens, and radishes.  We should be eating fresh salads well before the last day of school!  We are hoping that parents can help us dig on Thursday.  Is anyone interested in coming in for all or part of the day?  There will be a lot to do!
