    Dear Ms. Taylor,
My name is Jordan Glenn. I am a student here at Our Savior Lutheran School as a sixth grader. As a student, I have always enjoyed writing stories. We have recently read your story: “The Gold Cadillac”. I very much enjoyed this story because it taught me a lot about without making it boring. My favorite part in “The Gold Cadillac” would probably be when the Cadillac first pulls into the driveway and how excited everyone is. I like it because of how descriptive you are. I never was confused.
My least favorite part of this story would be when Mama refuses to ride in the Cadillac with Daddy. I didn’t like this part because it showed how even though Daddy really tried to please her, she ignores him because he was supposed to save money for the new house.
The story “The Gold Cadillac” showed me that even after a lot of fighting for freedom and protests, the south still refused to change its ways. Therefore, making it legal for the police to arrest Daddy just because he had darker skin. It also shows how horrible segregation was and how awful it always will be.
I would just like to thank you for sharing your stories and putting forth the effort to do so.
    In Christ,

    Jordan Glenn

    Dear Ms. Taylor,
Hi, I am Hannah Fink. I live in Michigan. I go to Our Savior Luthern School. I am in the sixth grade. W read your stories Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry and The Golden Cadillac.
My favorite part of the Golden Cadillac is when the family got the nice gold car. I like it because it reminds me how happy I am after I get something new from places, so I can relate that it makes people so happy and excited.
My least favorite part of the story is when they were taken to the police station. I did not like that because it was sad, how bad segeration was back then.
In your stories I was taught from your stories about how horrible and evil segeration was back then really was, because I didn’t really know intell now.
Do you have any kids? What is your favorite storie you wrote? I like Roll of Thunder. Whats your all together favorite book you ever read?
Your books were great!! I enjoyed reading them.
    In Christ,
    Hannah Fink

    Dear Ms. Tayor,

I am Dolan Christopher Robin Moles. The best about your story “The Gold Cadillac” is ‘Lois’s Dad even thought he was black got to keep his cool car. The part I liked least was when the white policemen accused him of stealing his nice car. I am just wondering, do you still write books. I would like to know because you write good books.

    Dear Ms. Talor,
My name is Isaac and I am 12 years old. I go to Our Savior Lutheran School and Church. I am in 6th grade and I like to play baseball and basketball with my friends.
Our 6th grade class read your book The Golden Cadillac. In my opinion the best part of the book is when they all returned from Mississippi. That is my favorite part because they are out of the segregation and they can eat at the restaurants and they don’t have to see the white only signs. My least favorite part was when their mother kept walking away from their father, because she wanted to save money for a house and he bought a new car.
I learned in your story that just because their color wasn’t the same that they were treated unfairly. I think that they should have been treated the same no matter what color their skin was.
What is your favorite book? Have you ever read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulson? I have and I like it because it is about a kid who gets stranded in the woods of Canada.
    I love your book!
    Sincerely,
    Isaac

    Dear Ms. Taylor,
My name is Kaitlyn Kaschinske and I go to Our Savior Lutheran School and Church. I love to read books including yours. I love the part of the story “The Gold Cadillac” where you described the first ride. It made me feel like I was in the car myself. That was a great feeling! I really didn’t have us least favorite part, but if I did it would be this. My least favorite part of this story was when they got pulled over by the police, I didn’t like this because it made me feel scared, but I still want it in the story.
I learned about segregation and how mean it was. This was an important part of history and with your books I wouldn’t of known how bad this was. I had never read any other books about segregation.
Did you experience these things or did someone else?
Did you do a freedom march?
What are some other books you wrote besides, “ Gold Cadillac”, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, and Let the Circle be Unbroken?
    Sincerely,
    Kaitlyn Kaschinske

    Dear Ms. Taylor,

Hello. My name is Olivia J. Conway and I am in the sixth grade of Our Savior Lutheran School in Grand Ledge, Michigan. I love to read many different genres of books, but one of my favorites is historical fiction. This is why I love your books so much.
Recently in class we read “The Gold Cadillac”. My favorite part if the story is when Wilma and ‘lois’ dad decided to take their cousins’ car down to their grandparents’ house. I thought that it was a really good idea not to take the Cadillac farther south.
My favorite part of the story was when ‘lois’ mother and father were in the fight about the car and when her father got arrested, just because he was driving a Cadillac! I really don’t like it when people argue, but it gets me REALLY upset when people are segregated, because of their skin, or any other reason.
Through your books, I learned what it was like to be segregated, of just to live in a segregated area. It is very terrible that our country was like this once. I just want to go back in time and erase segregation from our nation’s history.
What is your favorite book that you have written? My favorite is “Let the Circle Be Unbroken”, but I also really enjoyed “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”. Have you ever participated in a Freedom March? My teacher was in one. Are there any more of your books that you would suggest to me? I absolutely love your books.
My class and I just wanted you to know that we really enjoy your books. They are interesting, inspiring, and at the same time, we are learning our country’s history.

    In Christ,

    Olivia J. Conway

    Dear Ms. Taylor,
My name is Anna and im in the 6th grade. I'm 12 years old. I go to our Savior Lutheran School in Grand Ledge, Michigan. I love to read and I read when I can.
Recently in class we were reading the Gold Cadillac. The best part was at the end when Papa sold the car, which brought the family closer together. The part I didn’t like was when Papa was arrested for being black. I learned from your books what segregation was like and how sad it was. It’s a horrible thing that no one should have to go through. It was very cool that ‘lois and Wilma got to enjoy the car for a while. I can understand that situation, but in the end when Papa sold the car, I was really happy.
What is you’re favorite book you wrote? Are you currently writing any books or planning on writing any very soon? Are they going to be about segregation? Why? Do you enjoy writing on those topics?
I appreciate your books and hope you write more very soon.
    Sincerely,
    Anna

    Dear Ms. Taylor
I am Godfre Gildo in the 6th and I go to Our Savior Lutheran School I love your story “The Gold Cadillac” because he story is funny and the characters are cool. My favorite part of the story is when father got the Cadillac because the kids were all excited and they asked daddy are we rich? And I like how the car was designed with gold seats and everything.
My least favorite part of the story was when papa went up north and arrived south then drove a couple miles up then got pulled over for no reason. Then the next thing I Thought was he got arrested. He came out three hours later then told his wife and kids everything that he went through. But I think the cops arrested papa because they were jealous that a black man from the north had a better car then they did. I once felt not important to my parents when I was born because after me my brother born and he got more attention then I did so I thought why live her if my parents don’t love me but I found they needed to take care of my little brother because he was very skinny and needed to be watched every aviable time my parents had. My two questions are how long did it take to get both your books published? And how did u think of nice books like this?

    Sincerely
    Godfrey Gldo

    Dear Mrs. Taylor

My name is Austin Frank and I’m in the sixth grade. I just read your book the Gold Cadillac and I think it’s a really good book. My favorite part of it was when the girls go knocking on everyone’s door and saying we got a new gold Cadillac. My least favorite part is when the policemen accused them of stealing the car and all the white only signs.
I hope you write more books like this one. Because when I was little I was obsessed with cars. I still have a huge crate of toy cars in my room. I also read Role of Thunder. I thought it was one of your best books you made. I hope you make more books like the Gold Cadillac, and Roll of Thunder.

    Big Fan

    Dear Ms. Taylor,
My name is Crimmson Hughes. I am twelve years old and I am in sixth grade. The name of my school is Our Savior Lutheran. In class, we have recently read your story “The Gold Cadillac.” I love reading your books. I really enjoyed it.
My favorite part of the story was when the father brought home the new car, because the whole family was very excited about it. Also most colored men would not own a car like that. The worst part to me was when the father got arrested. I thought it was very unfair. Especially because he didn’t do anything wrong.
What I learned from reading your books is that so many things were wrong regarding segregation. To many people were being to badly mistreated. So many things needed to be corrected. Your books really mean a lot to me.
I have a few questions for you. If you could answer them that would be great. Are you ‘Lois in your books? Were you ever scared during segregation? Are characters real people or do you make them up?
Thank you for reading my letter.
    In Christ

    Dear Ms. Taylor,

My name is Lydia. I’m in the sixth grade of Our Savior Lutheran School. My dad is African- American and my mom is Caucasian.
The best part of “The Golden Cadillac” was when ‘lois’s father bought the Cadillac. It ment that some businessmen would sell the same items to a black man as he would a white man. It was a brand new car and he sold the Mercury for someone else to buy even though it wasn’t even a year old.
My least favorite part of this story was when the police stopped the father and arrested him for stealing the car. I didn’t like that because he did own the car, but the police immidetly assumed it was stolen. They also locked him up for speeding. I don’t think that they would do that to a white man.
I have learned a lot from your books. I think that they teach children of all ages (and even adults) about how African- Americans were treated before the civil rights movements and how unfair it was. I really liked “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry” because it taught me how hard the Depression especially African- Americans.
Have you ever been in a freedom march? My Aunt Rose and teacher were in one. Do you have any children of your own or close nieces or nephews? If so, do you portray some of their characteristics in your characters? If I become an author I know I would. What is your favorite book/story you wrote? I like “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry” the best because it has a well thought out plot.
    In Christ,
    Lydia
