POSTED AT 03:40 PM

All of my grandparents have gone home to Jesus, but I have such wonderful memories of them.  People did not move around as often as they do today, so we lived in the same city as our grandparents and we spent every Sunday with one set or the other.  I have special memories of each of them.

Grandma R. was very affectionate.  She taught me how to do plain knitting, fancy embroidery, and how to make simple doll clothes.  Grandpa R. played cards with us - mostly Rummy.  He never LET us win, so if we beat him it was quite a treat.  Every time I smell cigar smoke I think of my Grandpa.

Grandma F. liked to cook and bake.  She taught me how to bake cookies and cakes.  She always wore a big apron over her dress unless she was going out.  I still use some of the same old German recipes she used to use.  Grandpa F. taught us how to fish.  I remember how proud he was of me when I caught a big northern pike.  I think it was the only fish I ever caught.

Grandpa R's birthday was around Thanksgiving so the entire family would get together to celebrate.  Grandpa F's birthday was on the Fourth of July.  That was always the occasion for a big family picnic and fireworks.

On Memorial Day all the women and children of both sides of the family went to  the cemetery to clean the graves sitea and put flowers on them.  I used to love to hear the stories of these people I never knew, but who were near and dear to my grandmothers' and mother's hearts.  I believe that is where I first started to love history so much.

While I have special memories of each of them, the one thing all four of them have in common is that I knew how much they loved me and how special I was to them.

Now I am a Gramma.  Two of my grandsons live far away.  That makes me sad because I miss them very much.  One lives very close.  That of course makes me very happy.  I wonder what they will remember about me when they are grown up.  Will they remember all the times I read to them and sent them books?  Will they remember little trips we took together?  Will they know how often I prayed for them?  Will they know How very much I loved them?

Tell us about your grandparents.  What makes them so wonderful?  If you do not have any grandparents, tell us about someone special in your life today.

For Grandparents day I wish I could bring my grandma but she moved to Virginia like a month ago. I dearly miss her and love her. I would always do her laundry, walk to the store with her, and even sleep in her room next to her. She was my best friend and was a God loving person. She would pray up to at least five times a day and would always keep a cross necklace with her. She goes to Church every Sunday to worship Jesus Christ

My favorite Grandma and grandpa are my Grandma and Grandpa foster. They live here in MI but they go to Texas every winter because he had a heart attack a cobble years ago. They are really funny.
My Grandma and Grandpa Moles are funny to. My Grandpa Moles owns a printing business. I help out a lot with that. So when I am around them I have a lot of fun.

My grandparents are all very special to me because….

My Grandpa Conway was always teasing us and making jokes. He died three years ago, and I miss him. I’ve never met my Grandma Conway, but I was named for her. (Olivia JANE Conway)

My Grandma and Grandpa Gentz are also very special. Whenever my sister and I go to visit, they take us out to eat (without my parents.) => I like to go fishing and play Euchre with my Grandpa Gentz.

My Grandma E. moved to Texas two years ago. One distinct memory I have of her is one Christmas when she bought me a doll’s writing desk (that I still have) and hid it under her bed so I had to go looking for it. My Grandpa E. died before I was born, but he was known to have a great humor.

I love to visit my Grandma and Grandpa G. In the summer we go swimming in the pond on their property and go fishing. At family reunions we play Euchre (my family LOVES Euchre.) My Grandpa and I play math games and they both come to track meets and basketball tournaments. My Grandma is a really good cook. On Thanksgiving she prepares a turkey and homemade gravy and mashed potatoes. On birthdays she makes homemade Cherry Cheesecake. Whenever we come she bakes homemade chocolate chip cookies.

…This is why my grandparents are special.

My Grandma Engelter is my only Grandma I still see. She has taught me everything I know in cooking. I Grandpa Engelter is now dead,.{ He died from cancer in 2006.} He taught me to play golf and basketball. When I was little my Grandpa would take me to the golf course and let me hit balls with him. My grandma has her own little basketball hoop in the back yard. Grandpa would always lower it so far down I could almost touch it. One thing I love doing with Grandpa and Grandma was barbequing hot dogs. We would stay up all night roasting marshmellos and watching football. I would do anything to get my grandpa back. After my grandpa died, my grandma got a puppy named Mollyken, {Kenneth was my grandpa’s name, but everyone called him Ken} and she helped her get over the grieving process. Mollyken “Molly” is a cute pomerainian/poodle mix who is now a year old. I love my grandma so much and I cant wait for grandparents day.

My grandfather died of a heart attack in the year of ‘04 at the age of 50 something.

    My Grandpa Stan

My grandpa Stan built the smoke stacks down in Lansing. He has a really cool stone house. He also has a really playful cat but he’s kind of shy. He has lots of old fashioned objects up and down stairs. At Christmas and Thanks Giving he makes really good oatmeal cookies that everyone loves. His favorite kind of board game is chess.

    My Grandma Jackie

I love my Grandma Jackie. She has two cats that love to play. At Christmas she usually gets us books. She gets me military books and Travis ATA books. On Thanksgiving she is usually fashionably late. She like to talk about how were doing in school and what’s been going on in my brother’s and my lives.

    My Grandpa

My Grandpa Fitzsimons used to always take us fishing ,and one time I caught a fish and it died so my Grandpa threw it on another person’s boat. Whenever my Grandpa would come over to our house he would always take my brothers and me to the Old Country Mill in Potterville to bye candy. My Grandpa died in the beginning of July 2008.

    My Grandma

My Grandma Fitzsimons lives in Wisconsin. My family is going to go over to her house this Thanksgiving. Last year my family went to my Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving, and we had a turkey so big we had to cut it in half just so it would fit in the oven. The turkey was as big as my little cousin. I love to stay the night.

My Grandma F. tells me stories about when she grew up in North Dakota. She said it was so cold when they walked to school that her cried the tears froze her eyes shut. One year on my Grandpa F.’s birthday she put a frosting flower on my nose. She makes the best baked beans.
I can’t remember much about my Grandpa F. he died when I was four. But I remember that every year he would have a Quality Dairy cake.
My Grandpa Wells died before I was born and my Grandma Wells lives in Alabama, so I don’t see her much. When she comes she tells me stories about my dad when he was a young person. Like how he scared his sister by taking away the ladder when she was on the roof.
My Grandpa John works in E.M.S. (Emergency Medical Services). He likes to eat the popcorn from cookie order. Every year he and Grandmamma take me to dinner at a pleasant restaurant like Olive Garden.
My Grandmamma grew up in Africa and had a pet monkey. She has two sons, three grandsons and another one is on the way in California. I love to see them during at Christmas and give them their gifts.

I love all four of my grandparents. All of them love me dearly. They all have loving and funny nicknames for me.
Grandma S. taught me how to sew. Thanks to her I can sew things for other family members. I am also the only one I my household who can sew thanks to my Grandma S. She also taught me a lot of Spanish over the years. Slowly I forgot most. But sometimes I can understand things she says in Spanish.
My Grandpa S. loves to teach me all about his work. He works at the Meijer warehouse. He also likes to take me out to dinner. I n the summer he always walks with us to an ice cream place. On the way we always stop at the big apple tree and get some.
My Grandma H. loves to cook. One day I went to the store with my grandma and we got a lot of food to make dinner. When we got home we made a great dinner and gave it to my Grandpa H. He said he loved it. Afterwards we made homemade fruit smoothies. They were very healthy and sweet. They took a long time.
My Grandpa H. is really strong and very athletic. He loves when I come over so he has someone to love. He also loves to lie on the couch and watch T.V. When I come over he always give up his couch and T.V. and he moves to another room and watches things in his room. He also taught me how to golf. Someday I will be able to beat him.
I love my grandparents and they all love me.

My Grandma and Grandpa Fink babysat me after school every day when I was in Kindergarten. After school they’d take my cousins and me to Subway and get food for her then take us McDonalds for us and we’d play in the tubes. On holidays when at their house my cousins and I would get in her things and make a huge mess. They would smile and laugh to see us dressed up in their things. One night a cousin and I snuck up on my brother and cousin well they were sleeping and we put my grandma’s make-up and food like eggs on them! The next day while they were at work, my cousins and I found a letter saying “…good prank be careful, comebacks can be bad…”
My other set of grandpa and grandma are living in Brighton. They own a company and have a fun house. They have me call them Nana and Papa. When I was little my Papa gave me key lime pie. It was on video and I’d beg like a dog for more and more! My Papa says funny things and we’d start rolling and my Nana would hold back the laughter. My Nana taught me how to sew and quilt. I am getting good at it because she is such a good teacher. We go shopping together for back to school cloths. She promised to come to one of my games when I cheerlead. At a hockey game we went to we made fun of the players together it was so fun. I love all of them.

I have four grandparents in all. All of them have the equal amount of love for me.
My Grandma K. makes the best spaghetti sauce ever! She always serves so much food when we come to visit. She always has enough food for everyone who comes and sometimes leftovers. Grandma K. always gets me books for just about every holiday.
Grandpa K. Is so awesome! He takes me fishing with my sisters. We have the funniest time and then come home proud of what we caught. Once grandma and grandpa took us on a boat from Wisconsin. We got to see the cars being put in and everything. It was so fun. We learned what my dad, Aunt Ronda, Uncle Eric and Daren (Duker) did when they went to visit their Uncles and Aunts in Wisconsin.
Grandma Maurer is sweet to. She baby-sits a lot of children and my cousins. When we come to her house she lets us play with them and takes us to my Aunt Cheryl’s softball games and to her house and sometimes takes us to Pride and Country. She comes to our house when our parents are away and brings her exercise stuff and comes to be basketball games.
My Grandpa Maurer works at night sometimes so he sleeps some of the day. He is a farmer and once he let my cousins and me hoe and gave me $20 for doing it. Last year for Christmas he gave each of the grandchildren $10. Each family also got chocolate too.
    These are my grandparents.

I have five grandparents. Three grandmothers and two grandfathers. Even thought 2 of them live in a different country, they are still very special to me.
My grandparents on my mom’s side are my Grandma Evert and Grandpa Evert and Nana Evert. My two grandparents were divorced when my mom was 13. That is how we got Nana. I am very glad that we get to know Nana. Nana is a very different Grandma. She runs marathons on the coldest days of the year in Canada! She is very strong for her age and in great shape.
My Grandpa Evert is SUPER fun too. He owns an old convertible that he used to ride in when he was a teenager! Luckly, it still works. So that is what we get to ride around in if we go to visit him. He is very into sports. That is on the television. I there is any game on television, you can guraty he’ll be watching it. He also works at a sports store and sometimes takes us there. It is really fun. I go t to learn how to make how golf club!
My other Grandma Evert must be one of the coolest grandmas on the face of the planet. She owns her own spa! Not one, but two of them. Both of them inside a hotel. She lives in Palm Springs, California. So of course, she has a pool. And lives right beside the mountains! We play old games like Monopoly, Clue, Rummy and Go Fish.
Another thing that she has that is in almost any grandma is that she will get you just about anything… as long as you say please.
Now that we are done with my mothers side of the family, we should move onto my dad’s.
My grandma on my dad’s side we call Lil’ Gramma. It’s pronounced like that too. She is really little though. I’m almost as tall as her! She says that if I ever misbehave, even if she is 5 feet shorter then I, she will stand on a chair to get to me. J She lives in Chicago, Illinois along with my grandpa. Of course, she has taken us to the American Girl Store! We always get Chicago style pizza, the best pizza on the face of Planet Earth! She is really fun and I’m glad she is my grandma.
Now, my grandpa. Well, he is just like any other grandpa and still is very different. He takes us to the movies almost every time he sees us. He also plays guitar at his church and taught me guitar. We call him Papa actually. But that means nothing, he is still a fun, loving and wonderful Papa.
Well, there you have it, the novel on my grandparents! J

I posted on your blog about authors, and I decided to drop by tonight and see what you've been writing about. Your stories about your grandparents are wonderful! I loved reading them.

It made me think about my own grandparents who are no longer living, but who I spent much time with as a kid. It also makes me think about being a good grandma to my granddaughter....age 12 and in the seventh grade. I hope I can be as good a grandparent as yours are. I hope she will remember the things we did together.

    Keep up your excellent writing!

    Mrs. Fisher

P.S. On one of my posts about authors, I said I lived in Laguna Beach, CA, which is halfway between San Francisco and San Diego. Well, that was a mistake! I love halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. This is in the southern part of California where we have very warm weather almost all year long....and beautiful beaches. We don't ever get snow, though!
