This activity can be used to review spelling words,
vocabulary, parts of speech, and math.
What will students learn?
1. Students will
learn how to effectively use verbal skills.
2. Students will use
auditory skills.
3. Students will
learn how to work cooperatively together.
Lesson:
1. Students will be
divided into groups of 4.
2. Each group will be
given a category to work with.
3. Each group will
create at least 6 words that belong to their category.
4. All categories
will be listed on a handout.
Activity:
Students will ‘buddy up” and sit facing each other. Partner A will give a clue to partner B. Partner
B will try to guess the word. The
teacher /or a student will call out the category and that is when Partner A
gives a clue describing the word. Words
can be skipped and then revisited by saying PASS. After 2-3 rounds the partners change roles.
For a challenge give each category only 30 sec. then 20 then
15 sec.!
****If using spelling words as a category Partner B must
guess and spell the word!
ASSESSMENT:
Students will keep track of how many words they were able to
guess/spell in each category.
The top 2 students to guess the most words in the time
allotted will play the game again after the class has created some new
categories. (The top 2 students will not be familiar with the categories!)
