POSTED AT 11:00 AM

Welcome!  This year we will be spending a lot of time reading and one of the great things about reading is talking to others that have read the same books that you have.  This blog will serve a number of purposes for our class.  You can come here to search for a book to read as well as to read your classmates or my review of books we have enjoyed.  It is also a place where you can have conversations about the books and characters you are involved with in your independent reading.

Each time you finish a book, you will be required to complete a book review, we will go over in class what I expect.  If the book you have finished is already listed on the blog, then your job is to post your review under the original post.  If the book you are reading is not listed you will need to e-mail me your review and I will post your review for others to read and discuss.

I am very much looking forward to our blog being a place to get excited about books, to talk about books, to agree and disagree about books and to learn from each other.

I will post the first few books that I have read over the summer and that are some of my favorites.

**Your first assignment for my class is to respond to this post.  I would like to know what are the top three books you have read in the past year.  Why are these books your favorites?  Please include the title of each book as well as the author.  (Please avoid listing 3 books from the same series.)

Happy Reading and Blogging,
Mrs. Clark

The first best book i read last year, was The Clique Series by Lisi Harrison. This was one of my favorite books because, at times there was a lot of drama. This drama made me want to read more and even more books in the series.
The second best book i read last year was Eleven by Lauren Myracle. I felt like this book touched me in a special way, because we are both eleven, and going through the same difficulties in life, so that's why Eleven is one of my favorites.
Another favorite book is It's Not The End OF The World by Judy Blume. This book is about a girl named, Karen, and she's trying everything to make sure her parents change their mind about their new decision of being divoreced from each other. I favor this book because, it's also interesting to read about other people your age, who is going through the complete opposite stuff that you are going through.

Wow- I love reading about the books you have read. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Fiona I have another Gregory McGuire book in our reading center called, .....Opps- I can not remember the title- but it is the story of a rogue tooth fairy. I read all the books in his Wicked Series- I think I liked Son of a Witch better than Wicked. I was not crazy about A Lion Among Men.

Julia- I love the short story Eleven as well. We will read some great short stories like that this year. One of my favorite stories from when I was in 6th grade was, A Day Without Sunshine by Ray Bradbury. I love it.

***Everyone, please make sure you are answering the entire question.

My favorite books I read over the summer are :
The Last Olympian by: Rick Riordan
The Tale Of Desperaux by:Kate Dicamillo
    Brian's Winter bye:Gary Paulsen
I enjoyed reading the Last Olympian and also the whole lighting thief series because I like to learn about olympus and what the author thought olympus was. It's a exciting book that has the ability to make you either cry or laugh. I laughed. The Tale of Despereaux was really sad but I couldn't stop reading it. I read the book in like 1 day. I read Brian's Winter because the first of the series (hatchet) got me hooked. My opinion is that survival books are more interesting and captivating.

One of my favorite books I've read in the past year is Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix by J.K. Rowling. The reason I chose this book is because it shows the beginning of a new and the most important saga in the book that lasts until the end of the series. I also liked it because it shows that Harry is growing up. It shows this new image of maturity in him.

Another book that I like that I've read is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid The last straw. I absolutely love it because it's non-stop humor. I also like it because of the main theme how his dad is going to send him to a military academy. What the main character does to try to convince his mind is hilarious.

The last book that I like that comes to my mind is The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. It was a good because it had a lot of good adventure in it. I'm not all that into adventure and I still like this book and I think that's something it should be commented on.I also like the suspense.

My three favorite books i have read are number the stars by louis lowry, The mixed up files of Mrs. basil E Frankweiler by E.l. konigsburg and toliver's secret by Esther wood brady. I like number the stars because she wrote it well and its a true story because its based on the holocust. also the book fascinated me because it is a good book. I like Mrs.Basil E. Frankweiler because the kids run away and have an interesting adventure also it is sort of a mystery book. I like toliver's secret because she learns to face her fears witch is really important and hides her true identity. In the end of the book she stands up to a bully witch is not a very easy thing to do. It takes a lot of courage.

My Three favorite books are Sasquatch and Peak by Roland Smith and The Giver by Lois Lowry. I like Sasquatch because it's very adventureous. Most of the characters goes out on an active volcano to search for sasquatch but the main character, Dylan went with this guy that had a cabin on the mountain with they stayed in. There was a secrect copartment that led to many underground tunnels were the sasquatched lived in wich they can live remaning crypids. At the end Dylan actually saw a Sasquatch. I loved that book because I just found it so interesting to read about the groups exsperiance looking for this creature on a mountain than is also an active volcano that could erouped any second. I also read Peak, Peak is about a boy named Peak. He is very into climbing, in the begining of the book he is living in NYC and he scaled a scyscraper. After that his parents send him to Tibet and he climbs Mt.Everest, he's planned to be the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest. He climbs it with this other person that is around the same age as him and his dad sacrificed his life saving Peak's dad's life. In the end Peak let's the other kid get the fame by not going to the top. I found this book really interesting because I get a feel of what it's like to climb the hightest peak in the world and to know how they do it and all of the stuff they must do on the mountain. My third favorite book is The Giver, as I said earlier. I like The Giver because it takes place in the future and I just loved reading about the main character's new job and his world. I pictured his world so colorful and neat, well then until I found out that they saw in black and white.

Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Hound of the Baskerville is one of my favorite books. This mystery interested me because it caught my attention with the suspense. This book was in the genre of mystery which is one of my favorites. I enjoyed this book because it was very adventurous. The part that I enjoyed most was when Sherlock Holmes followed a carriage (which his friend and him failed to find out who was in it) found out the carriage number at such speed. Lastly, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is one of my favorite authors.

The second book of my choice is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Since I am fond of magic, I started the Harry Potter series. Fantasy is a genre that appeals to my imagination, as using my imagination is a passion of mine. I liked this book because it was the longest book I read in the past year. This book introduced me new to vocabulary words. J.K. Rowling catches the reader’s attention by weaving the plot where finally Harry defeated Voldemort yet again.

My last book is Earth and Space. Since science is my favorite subject, I chose to read this book. I chose this book because it is good to learn about the world around you.
Plus reading this book can help solve problems scientists are having trouble with. To conclude, these are the three favorite books I read in the past year.
