We had a great first 2 days of school last week. We are working on learning routines and learning about each other.
We have earned marbles and are half way to earning our first marble party. We earn marbles for making good choices as a class. When we earn 30 marbles(This goal increases as the year goes on), we will have a marble party as a reward. These marble parties encourage the class to make good choices.
I also have enjoyed "catching" individual students making great choices and giving that student a penny. The pennies go into their "piggy bank" and then they use the money to go to the prize box. There are prizes that cost 1 cent to 1 dollar. Many of the students have already gotten a few things from the prize box.
To let you know what we will be learning, I will include a section in the blog that will let you know the topics covered each week.
  • Reading: responding and enjoying books about school and the alphabet, introducing the Daily 5 (reading centers) of Read to Self
  • Writing: Introducing Writer's workshop
  • Math: Using math manipulatives, making a graph of boys and girls in our class, calendar
  • Social Studies: Ourselves and our families
I know that the beginning of school can be a very overwhelming time for parents and their First Graders. Thank you for all your hard work - Getting the children up and into the school routine can be very hard work. ;)
There is no school next Monday - Labor Day. Enjoy the 3 day weekend.

We ♥ the idea of the incentive when being caught making good choices. Your classroom seems just what Logan needs. We feel blessed already with having you as his teacher! Have a FABULOUS week!

Mrs.Pockl, well you are already making an impression on my daughter, Isabelle, She loves the marble idea & told me today that she can't wait to start getting homework!
Thanks for all of your hard work with the kids daily.
    Hope your week is great!
