Apples.
We have enjoyed starting our unit on apples last week and even enjoyed our second marble party. We are now working on earning 70 marbles for our next marble party.
We are continuing to adjust to being in school all day. It can be a long afternoon and many of us are struggling to stay focused in the afternoon. The first month of First Grade is a big adjustment.
Speaking of adjustment, please encourage your child to use lowercase letters especially when writing his/her name.
This week, I will begin assessing your child using AIMSWeb. Each child will be assessed in letter names, letter sounds, blending sounds (reading non-sense words) and phoneme segmentation (breaking words into sounds).
I will be out of the classroom on Tuesday afternoon for a math workshop.
This week, we are learning:
Reading: Daily 5 stations of Read to Self, listening and word work. Sequencing
Phonics: C, T, M
Writing: writing workshop, making books, sentences and word order
Math: compare, dot compare, counting
Science: seasons and apple trees
Have a wonderful week.
