Describe General Patton's psychological disposition. Be specific and use evidence from the film to back up your assertions.
In my opinion General Patton is really harsh on everybody because he is kind of crazy. For example when he slapped the crying soldier several times and knocked his helmet off. Another example of this is when he was in the field and he said he saw the carts in his dreams and it was all coming together. But in the end i think everybody around him made him realize he can not treat people like that and say things to people with such hostility. All in all i think his intellengence makes him a little bit crazy.
in my personal opinion, i believe that patton thinks men should be fearless no matter what. if it made him angry enough to slap a soilder, because he was showing weakness by crying, he obviously thinks men have to set an example of being brave, which is how the stereotypes were back in that time period.
I believe General Patton's has a strong interest and love for war. I think that is part of his disposition. I like his ways because he does not take cowards into his army.
Personally, I think that Patton is crazy. I think that he felt he was right to slap the soldier in the face, even though he was completely out of line. After that I think he felt he was starting to lose rank. He was the best at what he did and he knew it, but then reality was starting to set in. After he was told he was going to be just a decoy for D-Day, I think he was truely about to snap in his mind.
in Patton's mind, he believes that he is all the great generals from previous wars all throughout history. in the beginning of the movie, he was talking about how he was in the Punic wars with Carthage and Rome and he recalled a feild where he battled. later on in the film, when everyone was fighting for Sicily, a lot of people were talking about how Patton was going to take it. they all said that he was going to take it the same way the Athenians did. one final example would be when Patton and other generals were at dinner one night when someone said something to the extent that Patton would fight well with Napolean, to which he responded he did and everyone just laughed at him. psychlogically, he's not all there thinking he is a reincarnation of many people, but his plans for battle do work.
Patton seems to be a bit bipolar.. One minute he's kissing a wounded soldier and giving him an award, the next minute he's slapping a soldier across the face (though that didn't REALLY happen). However, this was within reason so it can be taken as him actually being moody, or simply short-tempered. Also, it's kind of funny how none of the men don't take him seriously when he talks about being reincarnated. It really shows just how crazy Patton might have been!
Everyone thinks patton is crazy, but when ou think about it hes actually brilliant at what he does. he figured out that the grmans were going to attack in thesnow. and another think is he had his whole plan to get his men 100 miles back to pattons position to fight in berlin. he says because he trained his men they will be able to fight as tired as they will be. so because of his positive mentality his plans always turn out right.
General George Patton while is undeniably a military genius, he is also very much insane. He has an inflated self view which is exemplified by his belief he is every great military leader in the history reincarnated. He is far from modest but that doesn't make him insane. What makes him insane though is how he firmly believed he was on a higher level then all those surrounding him. He had an inflated ego to the highest degree. His in
General Patton seems like a very complex man and his mind always seems to be running in overdrive. Whether he's planning for the next battle, reading about ancient conquests of foreign empires, or disciplining his men into shape, Patton never seems to slow down. He also has a very complex personality: most of the time, he's very strict with his men (criticizing their attire, behavior, etc...) While at other times, Patton's very sympathetic and kind-hearted. For example, he is greatly effected emotionally when one of his aides is killed towards the beginning of the film and is caring toward the men who are wounded and are being cared for at the medic station later on. As a result, he is unwilling to accept supposed "cowardice" from other soldiers when wounded men are dying daily (as is evident when he slaps a soldier repeatedly who's scared due to the constant shelling by the Germans). He is easily often angered over small things. It's almost as if Patton has a mild mental disorder (ex. being bi-polar) or is simply out of patience a lot of the time.
I feel that General Patton's psychological disposition is on the border of insane. We see this mentality many times throughout the movie. For example every time he visits a a historical battle site he claims to be the reincarnate of the great general who fought there. He also goes crazy every time he is left out of a battle, or is told to let the British advance. He has also been seen shooting at an airplane with just his pistol as if he was going to shoot it down.
General Patton was a great soldier and commander in World War II and he led his troops to many victories. However, psychologically he was not all there. In the movie when he was told he would have done well in Napoleaons army he says that he was there. He is obsessed with old battles because he truely believes that he is a mixture of all the great generals of war. He studies the sixteenth century like it was scripture. Most people think of war as this tragic loss of life. Whereas, Patton absolutely loves it and even says that he loves it more than his own life. That is not the most normal response when lives are being lost.
Patton's mindset is that of a crazy loon. He believes that he was in all sorts of battles in the past and believes he was the reincarnation of every great general throughout history. This along with him smacking a solider repeatedly and then kissing a Lieutenant after a battle. This comes after he boldly proclaims to the French that he is the best General since Napoleon. His mind set is not on protecting his troops while wining the war its just winning the war.
General Patton was a very interesting man. Although not completley crazy, he did have many crazy ways of thinking. Patton believes\d that he could find any battle field from any time period. He thinks that he was a part of the battle (one of the leaders)reincarnated. He loved war and loved to lead. He was a very competitive person, epecially when it came to General Montgomery. He despised cowards and did whatever he thought necessary to win. He was a different type of person, but a great General.
I think Patton acts the way he does because he needs to show authority. He needs his soldiers to understand that he is powerful and can be very tough at times. It only helps them out in the end so it is actually a good thing that he acts crazy sometimes cause it benefits them.
Patton has a quick way of thinking where he will say something now and think it over later. He makes decisions or judgments without giving a more completed thought on them. He tends to be humorous and sometimes makes good points, but overall seems to be more of person who thinks carelessly. The scene where he called that crying soldier a coward demonstrates my point because he later realized he didn't mean what he said and apologized.
Patton has a reputation for voicing his opinion and saying anything he feels is right in his mind. He has a good attitude towards the war and the right attitude for his position as general. His words have gotten him in trouble several time throughout the movie and almost cost him his position. However, he is always mentally prepared for anything that may occur.
I found it confusing at times to see into the mind of General Patton. He did have motives, and wanted to get things done with his soldiers and get them done right. Although he seemed rather harsh and demanding, Patton did care about what happened to his men physically. He also swore a lot, but was a firm believer in God. In one of the scenes, he was looking for guidance, and went to a church and prayed for it. Patton seemed kind of bipolar in certain parts of the film. The general he confided in died, and he was very sad and said he'd miss him a lot. However, in another scene, he smacked a soldier who openly admitted he just couldn't handle the war. It seemed like Patton had many personalities throughout the film and each was shown dramatically.
Patton seemed like he had many different personalities in this movie. He seemed angry most of the time because he was always yelling at everyone and seemed kind of crazy. At the same time he had moments where he would be very calm and made people laugh. It kind of seemed like he was bipolar to me.
General Patton's psychological disposition is a militaristic state of mind. Thoughout the movie he is always thinking of strategy and conquest for himself. He wants to become a military figure and to be remembered for a very long time. He succeeded in that. This is a man who does not think before he speaks as seen in the film. He is not politically correct. He is overly critical, severely disciplinary, and very vicious. If a soldier did not suffer battle wounds than he was not allowed to be hospitalized making him the first to put aside fear and doubt. This man was good at times and bad all the time, but very good at getting the job done.
I believe that Patton was slightly crazy, but he was also very successful at what he does. He was slightly crazy by believing that he was all the greatest war generals reincarnation in himself. If you ask me, that's pretty crazy. He is very successful at what he does because first he wins many of the battles he enters. Second he has his soldier's loyalty and having that connection makes all the difference in war time.
Patton has a complicated mind. I think that in a sense he didn't really think before he acted. He just ran his mouth and it usually came back to haunt him. Like when he yelled at and slapped the one soldier. Or when he accidentaly dissed the Russians during his speech to the British women.
General Patton tended to come off as a little insane sometimes. He was very stubborn in his leadership and demanded many ridiculous things. He yelled at both a cook and a doctor to wear their helmet which I have never seen before. I thought that this was a little much to ask for and thats why i think he had some sort of mental power issue.
General Patton believed that he was reincarnated as every fanous general that ever lived. He truly believed these things and even spoke out loud to other people claiming that he remebered being there and fighting in specific battles. He also seemed to base his strategies off of what he read or what he "remebered" from the strategies previously used by past leaders.
