Dr. Stangelove is there to to show the real insanity of the bomb. The whole movie the viewer is rationalizing with all the other ideas. The reason for dropping the bomb, and all the tactics they used during the entire movie. It isn't until Dr. Strangelove comes out after the bomb is dropped that the viewers truely see the insanity of the entire idea. By dropping the bomb what did they succeed in doing. They succueed in condensing the entire world into 100,000 people and making them live underground for 100 years creating a master race. That is why Strangelove it there, to show the true insanity of the bomb.

As we know, the director(Kubrick) seemed to find nuclear warfare rediculous. This ties into the role of Dr. Strangelove because he represents the inner workings/mad scientist character of the creators of such things as the Doomsday device which then ties into his Nazi-characteristics(calling the president "mein fuhrer" & the salute) (comparing the ideas of genocide to the nuclear warfare/doomsday plan).

In my opinion Dr. Strangelove really did not play a big role in my eyes. He was only in a couple scenes and it really confused me because most of the time i did not understand what he was talking about or his significance in the movie. He seemed to be important because of was telling the president to take 100,000 good looking people so the bomb did not kill them.

First off, I think Dr. Strangelove fills the role (archetype) of the "mad scientist" within the film. He has a strange, "nasally" voice and wild hair, acts strangely (ex. when his hand starts moving on its own at the end of the film), and his thinking is very unusual (ex. when he brings up the "mine shaft" theory and when he gets excited about the doomsday machine). To me, he felt like a very mysterious character who always lingered in the shadows and always presented the worst of any situation (possibly representing the intense fears of those who lived during this decade). Although Strangelove has a relatively minor role, he's crucial to the central plot of the story (being the voice of impending doom) and his character also adds to the comic relief within the film.

Dr. Strangelove, while he didn't play a major part in the film until the final scene, was an important character in that he emphasized some of the more ridiculous satirical points of the movie. The question is implied "how the government could hire this crazy eccentric ex-Nazi who still has his plans for a master race and have him run the weapons program?" His plan for mine gaps very much resembles the Nazi "master race" and the connection is obviously made. His purpose is in furthering exemplifying the strangeness of the situation.

I believe that Dr. Stranglove was mostly in the movie for comical relief. This is illustrated by his almost spasm type movements. He is a strange character who is used lightly throughout the film. He is also a funny man who often yells "Fuhrer" and "Hail Hitler" when he talks to the president. He may also be used to progress the story with the talk of the doomsday machine. This causes him to have an important role in the movie.

Dr.Strangelove's role in this film is a different perspective on the average view on things. Dr.Strangelove puts a spin on almost every situation. When they were discussing the world ending Dr.Strangelove put out t the idea of going underground and having 10 women per man. I believe that was his fantasy of having 10 women to do his bidding.

Dr. Strangelove was an ex-Nazis scientist who was recruited by the US government. His role in this movie was to show how desperate the US became about nuclear warfare that they would put an ex-Nazis into the presidents inner circle. It didn't matter if he was responsible for killing people because when the USA needed him, all that other stuff just became irrelevent. It isn't clearly stated what Dr. Strangelove's purpose is other than an advisor to the president. He adds a dark comedy to the film by the way he talks and his mechanical hand. He knows a lot about the Russian Dooms Day device and he seems to get a thrill when talking about it.

i think the role of dr. strangelove in this film was mainly for comic relief and the occasional head scratcher. even though the title of the film is called dr. strangelove, he himself had a very small part, only being on screen i believe twice. during those times, he mainly talked about the doomsday advice and how people who would be saved would have to go underground with a 10:1 woman:man ratio

Dr. Strangelove was a nuclear war expert who was represented as a mad scientist. Strangelove speaks with an odd German accent and has a mechanical hand that every so often gives the nazi salute. At one point, Strangelove even calls the president Fuher. It is these similarities that leads to believe that Strangelove was meant to represnt Henry Kissinger who served as Secretary of State. Kissinger was of German birth,a nuclear war expert, who appaerntly had no mercy.

I think Dr. Strangelove started out as a background character for a reason. The audience only got little glances of him during the beginning and this was done for a purpose. I believe this movie was supposed to a bit confusing until the very end. When Strangelove came out of the shadows to explain his deal with the doomsday device. He was obviously a very creepy man but he was meant to represent the mad scientist character. He pulled the film together. His name was "strangelove" because he had a weird obssession/love for the bomb.

I think Dr. Strangelove played the role of "Crazy Man". He seemed to be very intelligent but absolutely insane. Kind of like a mad scientist.

Dr. trangelove's role in the film would be a crazy Nazi scientist who plays a small, but big part in the film. He seems to be a weird, but intelligent man who wears a black glove and has moments where he is unable to control his hand. Strangelove represents many different people within the cold war and takes bits of characteristics from them.

Strangelove to me came off as the mad scientist. He was extremely creepy in his mannerisms and how he looked. I think he was there to show the crazy side of things. I think he was in the movie to play the role of the man who had all of the asnwers.

I think that Dr. Strangelove was the most intresting and mysterious character in this film. Although he is not considered a main character, he still plays a major role in the mood of the film. Dr. Strangelove shows how people changed during this time period. He shows how many people felt about nuclear warfare or "The bomb".

Dr Strangelove was just one of those mad scientists. He didn't really have a major role in this movie, which surprised me. I think he was probably there to show the craziness of the whole bomb thing. When he came out at the end of the movie in the shadows it kind of showed how creepy he really was and how he was the one who had all of the answers.

I didn't think Dr. Strangelove played an important role in the film until the last scene. He played a crazy character similar to a mad scientist. There's no doubt he was inteligent, but at times I didn't understand what he was talking about. He seemed to have a strange obsession and love for the bomb. Also, he kept acting like he was talking to Hitler when he talked to the general. Overall he was a very strange character and I did not understand his purpose in the film.
