All classes continued our Thursday tradition of watching a short current events video and responding to it with mock editorials. 7th ELA classes learned a new stem: gen which means "origin" as in genetics, genome, and indigenous. We read "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes and discussed the use of setting, rhythm, and its theme. After the reading, we took a short quiz on the poem. GATE classes read "The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. We compared it to "Paul Revere's Ride" and examined its use of theme and rhythm and briefly discussed some intepretations of the poem. We then took a quick look at the life of Walt Whitman and read his elegy, "O Captain! My Captain!" We also reviewed our Word Within the Word List #8 stems for tomorrow's assessment.
