OK, this one is only for seniors.  You are leaving soon and we will miss you (really, we will).  So, before you go, please tell us about your favorite memory involving CHS science.  This can be about any science class (not just AP Biology II Honors) or activity during your time at CHS.

If I had to choose one CHS science memory, it would most definitely be the Mouse Creek clean-up during my freshman year.
This would be considered my first service project for the community, especially in high school. It felt great to give back to not only the community, but to the environment as well.
I do not think we really realize the effect we have on everything around us--until you spend a few hours on a Saturday morning cleaning tires, shopping carts, and just straight-up trash out of flowing water.
I will admit, however, that I had worn shorts and tennis shoes that day, and the water felt like 40 degrees. Not the best decision that I've ever made.
Thank you, Mrs. Long, for the opportunity!

I have only been at CHS for two years, so I have taken Biology for two semesters with Mrs. Long! My favorite has to have been the shark dissection. Everything was very easy to find (except, you know, the kidneys!) and the smell was not as bad as the cat, or the crayfish (that's the worst, I think). I didn't feel bad about dissecting the shark, mostly because I don't have any sharks at home that I pet and feed daily <.<.

A CHS Science memory I will always take with me (whether I like it or not!) happened just the other day, during cat dissections. Dan's group decided to try getting at the brain, and succeeded, which is pretty cool. The reason it sticks out to me, though, is they way that they did it. They cut the cat in such a way that its face was intact. They could literally peel the face off, turn it inside out, to get at the open skull, then just slide it back into place, good as new. Absolutely hillarious! ...Is it wrong to laugh at that?

This organism is the dogfish shark and the organ pinned is the liver which functions as the production of bile and detoxification within the organism's body.

My favorite memory in science at CHS was probably when we went electrofishing my freshman year in Biology I H. That was neat because we got to get in the water and really see what the fish are like in their natural environment. I also really liked it because it was outside and I love being out when there is nice weather during the school day.

The science classes have been wonderful. My favourite was environmental science. I loved that class. It was fun and very interactive. The students were responding and so was the teacher <Mrs. Long>. Mrs. Long finds new and different ways to get her students' interest. She knows just what to do at the right time. Our Ap Biology this year was also really fun. One of my favorite parts about it was having to disect Sharks, cats and other organisms as well. It was great, but more so, I learned alot about all the organisms that we disected.
My Physiology and Anatomy class was cool. I enjoyed it. Mrs. Hattaburg is the teacher. She does a lot as well. I can't say that I did not enjoy that class, because that will be a lie.
All the science classes in CHS were fun and still are.

    Shaina,
I am posting your comment, but I am sure it was meant for the dissection entry.

Hmmm...my favorite memory at CHS regarding the sciences has to be Aquatic Biology. That was the best science class I've taken. The field work was a blast. I loved getting out there and doing research. It was great! The electrofishing was also a blast (no pun intended). Working with Rob Motice, Dr. Marc Schorr, and Dr. Anna George was a wonderful experience. They are some of the nicest people. One of the memories that keeps coming to mind is the Bioblitz. Oh man! Now talk about 8 hours of pure fun shocking and identifying fish right there! :D

Thank you Mrs. Long for being such a wonderful teacher and person. You have taught us all so much about the field of science. You're a blessing!!!!

Without Mrs. Long the science department would Definitely not be the same. I remember my freshman year about how she told us about how she likes to stare at water! She gives it her %100 on everything she does. My favorite memories according to science were dissecting the frogs my Freshman year and the Mouse Creek Clean Up. Thanks Mrs.Long you

Josh! Wonderful former student! How great to read your comment. I don't want to start crying this early. I know I will cry next week. Bioblitz was a wonderful day. You are the blessing. Your entire class was a blessing. I am honored to work with such incredible scientists. Dr. Mark Schorr, Dr. Anna George, Rob Mottice - they are incredible scientists who are gracious to work with us. But, I am referring to my incredible student scientists. I learned something from you every day.
    Thank you.

Well I would have to say that my favorite memory of CHS will be the dissections we just completed. I had so much fun operating on cats brains and sharks intestines...It was awesome and thank you so much Mrs. Long for being my favorite teacher this year and also a wonderful person.

My favorite memory would have had to have been the creek cleanup from Biology I honors. We found so much cool stuff, including a giant bell embedded in concrete, a bicycle tire, a crayfish nest, and what looked like the remnant's of a homeless person's belongings. We all got soaked, though. I think I got soaked the worst, though. The best part though was the fact that we were actually helping clean the natrual habitat of countless organisms.

My favorite CHS science memory would probable be this year when a few student (including myself) went in search of organisms that we could extract RNA from. Overall, the whole project was very interesting and I enjoyed the opportunity of getting to learn about such and interesting topic.
