All classes have completed units on Ecology this semester.  When I teach this topic, I try to encourage you to have an appreciation of the incredible area in which we are blessed to live.  Please describe (climate, flora, fauna, etc.)  your favorite natural area.  The area you describe does not have to be local, but you must describe it in your own words.

As you know, we are very fortunate to be gaining a Science Wing addition at Cleveland High School.  We are so grateful to the members of the School Board, parents, and others in the community who have supported us in this endeavor.  Juniors, you have been in our science rooms all these years and know how badly we need new rooms, labs, furniture, and equipment.  Many of you have given comments and participated in science focus groups meetings.  We are so appreciative.  Freshmen (and possibly sophomores), you will actually have the opportunity to take some science classes in the new wing.  We are still planning specifics regarding the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics rooms.  Please post all your ideas.  How do you think the rooms should be arranged?  What type of furniture would you like?  What type of equipment do you think we should have?  What type of flooring would be best?  Where and how big should the sinks be?  What about computers?  How many should we have?  Where should they be located?  How would you like to use them in a science class?  Please tell us what you think about these things or anything else you can think of pertaining to the CHS Science Wing.

OK, this one is only for seniors.  You are leaving soon and we will miss you (really, we will).  So, before you go, please tell us about your favorite memory involving CHS science.  This can be about any science class (not just AP Biology II Honors) or activity during your time at CHS.

We are completing animal dissections in Biology I Honors and AP Biology II Honors.  Please identify the following organism.  (Hint:  It is my favorite animal.)  In addition, identify the organ that is pinned (yellow headed pin).  Discuss how this organ helps this organism be buoyant.  Discuss other physical characteristics of this organism that make it well suited for its habitat and niche.  (No references on this one.  Do not look anything up.  Use your own thoughts and words.  I want to know what you think!)

Ok, excessively smart Homo sapiens, let's do some fish identification!  Here is a picture of a type of fish that lives in Mouse Creek.  Give me all you can on it.  Go for all of the following.  Taxonomy - Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.  Be sure to put the scientific name in correct format.  Also, give me the common name and information about the ecology of this fish (habitat, niche, range, spawning details, etc.).  Now, unless you know all of this information off the top of your head (There are a few of you who know all of this off the top of your head - I know who you are.), you definitely need to cite references (in correct format).  And, I want you to paraphrase (means summarize in your own words).

AP Biology II Honors students recently had an incredible opportunity to complete an RNA Extraction Project with a former Cleveland High School student, Ryan Richt, and his company, Cofactor Genomics.  Who can explain the procedure for using what is shown in this picture?

Aquatic Biology (Scientific Research) Honors students have been working on original scientific studies this semester.  I am going to share information about these projects.  Both Biology I Honors and Aquatic Biology (SR) Honors students can comment.  Aquatic Biology (SR) Honors students should share more information about their projects.

Here is an image related to one of the projects.  Post comments on what you think about this microsopic image.  What is it?
