Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.  While you're eating turkey and visiting, don't forget to read.

Mrs. Perdue's class is challenging themselves to read 5 books during the Thanksgiving. break.  This can be done and I will be joining the challenge, too.  After I make it, and I will, I will tell you all about the books I have read.  Hope you take the challenge and read 5!

It was a glorious day at our state capital and the book festival was fun.  Lots of authors for lots of books.  There were chefs, bee keepers, Texas authors and an assortment of people.  It was fun to walk from tent to tent, listening to authors and music, and picking up books.  Aah! Books and sunshine.  Who could ask for more even if you are not a librarian.

This is the first year I will attend the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas.  There will be authors from all over at the state capital.  I am looking forward to a fun and tiring day.  Hope to get some books signed.  Not sure who all will be there, but it promises to be a great experience.  It is free and what a way to celebrate books!  I'll let you know all about it next week.  Keep Reading!

Just saw Vampire's Assistant and LOVED IT!  Of course I am a huge fan and knew the books.  It was a lot of fun.  No real gore - good.  And funny in parts.  It was a lot like the author Darren Shan.  He is very funny and loves a good scare.  I knew the movie would not follow the book and some things were added, but it was fun.  I want to see it again.

If you  read the blogs, then you will be the first to know that Cirque du Freak Day is Thursday, October 22nd.  Make sure you come by the library for a special bookmark and to meet the vampire.  LOL  Can't wait to see the movie.  Should be fun.  Nothing like a good vampire movie right before Halloween.

For all you Cirque du Freak fans...Vampire's Assistant movie will be out in October this year!  I am soooo excited.  The movie will be a combination of the first three books in the series.  I was able to see pictures of some scenes from the movie on Darren Shan's website.  They look great and very scary.  If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend that you do before you see the movie.  We have 11 copies of the first book in out library.  Come by for your copy.

Should books be made into movies?  Twilight was a real hit as a movie and even bigger as a book.  I was disappointed in some of the character choices and some of the parts that were left out or changed to suit the movie.  However the movie encouraged others to read the series.  I was very disappointed in the movie Bridge to Terabitha.  The movie makers made up the fantasy part of the book to sell the movie.  Now there is a movie out based on the short picture book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  Not sure if I want to sit for 90 minutes to watch a 5 minute book.  I recently watched the movie Inkspell.  Since I did not read the book, I had no idea what it was about.  Now I wish I had read the book.  Guess I could read the rest in the series.  City of Embers was a good interpretation of the book.  I liked Bill Murray as the mayor.  How do you feel?  Should you read the book first?  Should some books just not be made into movies?
