    Rides, T-Shirts, and Practice Schedule

    There will be no practice on Wednesday, February 4 because of a mandatory faculty meeting.  The deadline for t-shirt orders is Monday morning at 9:00.  There will not be a second round of orders.  Also, I appreciate how prompt most of the parents have been about picking up your children after practice.  It is very important that everyone's ride is on time so I can resume my teaching responsibilities in the evening.  I am looking forward to another great week of practice!  -Coach Boykin

    First Practice a Success

    Today was our first practice, and it was very successful.  Everyone listened, and worked hard during all 4 stations.  I was particularly impressed with the leadership displayed by our 8th graders.  I like the attitude of this team so far.  Let's keep it going throughout the season.  Remember our top 3 rules:
    1. Stretch to hit, don't hit to stretch. 
    2. We are guests on the GHS courts, so no gum and no litter. 
    3. Run, don't walk on the tennis court.
    Remember, the t-shirt order forms are due on Friday, and practice tomorrow will end at 4:30.  Have a great evening!

    Practice on for Thursday!

    I will keep an eye on the temperature, but we are planning on holding our first practice this afternoon.  Please continue to bring in all t-shirt orders.  I need to have them by Friday morning if we want to have the shirts ready for our first match.  Thank you for being so patient this week!  -Coach Boykin

    No Practice Wednesday!

    Wednesday's practice has been canceled due to the weather.  We'll try again on Thursday!  Please continue to bring all T-Shirt and Internet Consent forms to Coach Boykin as soon as possible.  Have a great Wednesday!

    Practice and Forms

    I will do my best to post a decision about practice on this site before 2:00 on days when the weather is suspect.  If practice is cancelled today, there will be a quick team meeting to get the T-Shirt Order Form, and the Internet Consent Form.  Both of these forms are now available on this site in case you lose your copy.  Have a great Monday everyone!

    2009 Team is Ready!

    Our 2009 tennis team is set and ready to go!  Our first practice will be on Monday from 3:30-5:00.  Meet me by the gym doors at 3:25.  We will walk to the GHS courts together as a team.  As a reminder, your ride can pick you up at the GHS courts.  If they are not there at 5:00, you must return to CTMS with me and wait for your ride there.  No one will be left unsupervised at the GHS courts.  If you have a conflict on Monday, please tell me in advance, and please come by my room to pick up a t-shirt order form.  We need to get the orders to the t-shirt company as soon as possible because our first match is only 2 weeks away.  There are 60 members of our team this year, so our practices will be very structured and organized.  For the practices to be productive, we will have to be very efficient in everything we do, so come ready to work and ready to listen.  I hope you are looking forward to Monday as much as I am.  Everyone hope for good weather next week! -Coach Boykin

    Thursday Tryouts

    We had another great session today with the 8th graders.  It was fun to see how much the returning players have improved, and I enjoyed watching the new talent we have on the team as well.  Don't forget about make-up tryouts on Friday.  Any 7th or 8th grader that has not been to a tryout will need to be there.  Also remember to check my door in the morning for the first list of students that made the team.  -Coach Boykin

    Tryouts

    We had a great day of seventh grade tryouts on Wednesday.  The weather was perfect, and everyone came ready to work hard.  I was very impressed with the attitude and skill level of our entire group.  Remember to check my door on Friday morning to see if you made the team.  A special thanks goes out to Coach Samantha Cloud from GHS for helping us this week.  We are looking forward to working with the 8th graders on Thursday!       -Coach Boykin

    Schedule Changes

    We already have three changes to the schedule I sent home for sign-ups.  First, the February 16 match with Carroll has been moved to February 17 because of our holiday.  Second, the April 6 match with Coppell North has been changed to February 11 because of TAKS.  That means we have 2 matches during the first week of the season!  We need to practice extra hard the first 2 weeks to be ready.  In addition, we were able to get a practice match with GMS on March 4 because they are not on our schedule this season.  All changes have been added to the Spring Schedule page on this site.  I hope everyone has been studying for exams and practicing for tryouts.  We'll see you next week!     -Coach Boykin

    Sign-Ups

    Sign-ups are going extremely well, as we have over 50 people on the tryout list already.  Thank you to all of the parents and students for getting their paperwork to me on time.  We already have a few changes to the match schedule, so be sure to check the website for up to date information.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the tennis courts!    -Coach Boykin
