Parents - you should have seen Thursday's practice.  This team is heating up with the weather.  They were very sharp, and very focused yesterday.  Let's keep up the great work!

There is no practice on Monday because of TAKS.  Our practice match with GMS is on Wednesday at 4:30.  Be at the GHS courts by 4:00.  Wear your normal uniform (white match shirt with black or dark shorts or skirts), and bring your own water.  Because it is a scrimmage, most of you will play in one match.  When you have finished, you are allowed to leave, but you are more than welcome to stay and watch your teammates.  We are looking forward to playing our friends from Grapevine Middle.

Our official team picture will be taken on Wednesday at 4:00.  Be sure you are there on time with your uniform ready.

Only two more internet forms need to be collected.  After they have been turned in, you will be able to browse through a ton of match pictures, compliments of our parent photographers.

You did a wonderful job practicing your tiebreakers today.  Review the rules in your mind this week, and quiz your teammates about what they remember.  We have played several tiebreakers in matches this year, and I am sure there are more to come.

Report cards come out next week, so I will check your grades on Thursday.  This will determine your eligibility for the last three matches.  There are high academic standards for tennis, and you have risen to the challenge.  Our tennis team is made up of outstanding students, and I am very proud of your accomplishments in the classroom.  Have a great weekend!   -Coach Boykin

Warm temperatures have arrived this week, with a high of 85 expected on Thursday.  I just wanted to take the time to remind you to bring your own water if possible.  We will take plenty of water breaks to keep you hydrated, but if you ever feel like taking one on your own, do not hesitate to ask.  Stay cool!  -Coach Boykin

Once again it has been a great week for the tennis team.  We are exactly where I hoped we would be at this point in the season - a team that has come together, and is on the rise.  Our goals are to build on what we have accomplished, and to improve throughout the remainder of the season.  We do not have a match next week.  We will have three solid practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  There will be no practice on Monday because of a GMS match, and no practice Friday because I will be out of town.  Everyone has their shirt, but I still need about 9 payments.  Almost all of the Internet forms are in, so pictures will be posted hopefully by next week.  Have a great weekend everyone!   -Coach Boykin

I know this is short notice, but there will be a group picture of the girls taken for the yearbook on Thursday during practice.  If you remember, bring your match shirt.  The boys had their picture taken today.  Don't worry if you weren't there; we will have a picture of the entire team before the match against GMS.  The boys had an excellent practice today.   Most of you were able to play at least two challenge matches.  The girls will have the same plan for Thursday.  Don't forget, everyone will practice on Friday from 3:30-4:30.  Have a great evening everyone!   -Coach Boykin

Congratulations to the Wolves on their 15-4 victory over Carroll today!  Both teams had some players missing today, but you never lost focus, and you played a great match.  Due to the score, we were able to play several of the girls in higher positions than normal, and it was really fun to watch.  I am very sorry that the top 2 girls were unable to play due to forfeits, but I appreciate your attitude and your understanding.  You are a wonderful example for the rest of the team the way you handeled the situation.  Once again, I witnessed a lot of sportsmanship on the courts, and it looked like everyone was having a good time.  I am starting to see a lot of improvement in several areas, including serves and volleys.  There are also some definite areas we need to work on like doubles positioning and overheads.  (I have a great game for that in practice!)

So here you are at 3-0, and the season is just over a week old.  Since we have a few weeks off before our next real match, it's time to focus on ourselves.  First, make sure you stay on top of those grades.  We have a great academic record as a team, and I want us to keep it that way.  You have a day off this week, and 2 days off next week, so it's a perfect time to get caught up with your school work.  Second, every one of us needs to improve something in our game for the next match.  We will start with the practices this week.  If everyone improves by just 10% before the end of the season, imagine how good this team will be.

I am so impressed with this group.  You really seem to be enjoying the game of tennis, which is what this program is all about.  A BIG thank you goes to all of the parents who came to watch today.  I really enjoyed visiting with many of you.  Feel free to introduce yourself at a practice or match if we haven't met yet.  Remember, Wednesday is an all boys practice, and Thursday is an all girls practice.  Get ready for some challenge matches!   -Coach Boykin

Today was supposed to be a GCISD holiday, so I rescheduled our match for Tuesday.  However, I forgot that GMS did not move their match, so we were unable to practice today.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  We were able to get about fifteen minutes worth of serving in today, and I am sure it will help us in our match tomorrow.  Here are a few reminders for the week.

    1. Tuesday's match is against Carroll at Carroll Senior High.  They have a small team and a limited number of courts, so there will not be many extra matches.  The top 15 boys and girls are required to go, but everyone is invited.  The bus will leave the CTMS gym at 4:00, and return around 6:45.  If you ride home with your parents, you must check in with Coach Boykin first.  Wear you uniform (white match shirt with black or dark shorts or skirts), and bring your own water.  Directions to Carroll are posted on this site.

    2. Wednesday's practice will be for boys only so we can have challenge matches.  Thursday's practice is for girls only.

    3. T-shirt money and Internet Consent Forms are due.

Have a great evening everyone.  I am sorry again about the mix-up!   -Coach Boykin

Friday's practice was the best one of the young season.  A special thank you goes to all of the high school players that gave up part of their Friday afternoon to help us drill.  We were very efficient and upbeat, which allowed us to have a productive hour.  It looked like everyone had the opportunity to hit a lot of tennis balls, and that you were having a good time.  We placed a special emphasis on backhands yesterday, and I am sure that your hard work will pay off next week against Carroll.  Here are the usual reminders.

    1. Turn in your t-shirt money.  If there was a mistake in your order, or if you placed a new order last week, the shirts will arrive on Monday.

    2. I still need 9 Internet Consent Forms before I can post pictures of the matches.

    3. Our next match is Tuesday against Carroll at Carroll Senior High.

    4. Wednesday's practice will be for boys only.  Thursday's practice will be for girls only.  Enjoy your day off and keep those grades up.

Many of you are asking when pictures will be available.  I still have ten Internet Consent Forms that have not been turned in, and I am not allowed to post pictures of students unless I have them.  Thank you for being patient while we complete this requirement.  Thank you also to the parents who have sent me pictures to post.  They are fantastic, and I can't wait to share them.     -Coach Boykin

Congratulations to the Wolves for their second straight 10-9 victory!  You have impressed me this week in many different ways.  First, I am so happy that everyone wants to play in a match.  Your enthusiasm for the game is a big reason you will improve a great deal this season.  FORTY TWO of you played in today's match, which means almost everyone played in one of our matches this week.  Thank you to those of you who had to be patient while you waited your turn.  If you haven't played yet, don't worry.  Your time is coming.

My hat is off to Coppell North.  They were very talented, and they played to win.  Many of their players played 3 matches so we could get most of our team involved.  We appreciate them coming early and staying late so we could get as many matches on the court as possible.

What can I say?  This team just finds a way to win.  Today many of you were playing higher than usual because of some absences.  You accepted the challenge, and you played inspired tennis.  This was a true team win.  Boys, girls, 7th grade, 8th, grade - you all contributed to the team win, and you should be very proud.  If you didn't win your match, please do not get down.  I saw IMPROVEMENT in so many of your matches, and that is what matters the most.

We have a few days to enjoy our tremendous week.  However, the work is not done.  There is no practice on Thursday, so go home and study.  Friday, we need to have a solid practice, and really work on some fundamentals - especially BACKHANDS.  Monday we will fine tune a bit and then we're back in action on Tuesday at Carroll.

What an amazing first week - and it's only Wednesday!!  Look for pictures of this week's matches soon.  I need to get everyone's Internet Consent Form returned before I can post any pictures.  Also remember to get your t-shirt money to Coach Boykin by Friday.  A BIG thank you goes out to all of the parents who came out to support the team.  As always, you made a huge difference.  You make this program what it is, and I truly appreciate your efforts.  Have a great rest of the week!    -Coach Boykin

Congratulations to the Wolves for a hard-fought victory over a talented Coppell West team on Monday!  This team showed a lot of character, and I am proud of every one of our players.  First, it is always good to start out with a tough match.  I now know that this team will play hard to the very end, and that we will play with class and sportsmanship.  Every match I watched was friendly, and both teams were very determined to win.  I sensed that we kept our focus after the doubles matches, and it made the difference in the end.  32 players were able to play a match today.  Three people did not get to play, and you will be the first to play on Wednesday.  A big thanks goes out to all of the parents that came out to support the team.  It makes a big difference when you are there.  Celebrate the win tonight, but tomorrow we must regroup in order to play another good team on Wednesday.  Here are a couple of reminders about the schedule:

    1.  Our next match is on Wednesday against Coppell North at the GHS courts.  Everyone is required to attend.  The time has been moved up from 4:30 to 4:00.

    2. There will be no practice on Thursday.  Go home and study.

    3. There are a few problems with the t-shirt sizes.  I will fix the problems as soon as possible.  I apologize for the inconvenience.  Be sure to pay if necessary.  We will pass out the remaining shirts at school on Tuesday.

What a way to start the season.  Congratulations on a job well done.  -Coach Boykin
