This is the Blog Spot for Karen Day's Tall Tales You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • Describe a result of one of Meg's "tall tales" (one of the fibs she tells).
  • Which sentence(s) in Tall Tales might most clearly describe the mood of the book?  Why?
  • Which character in Tall Tales would be the easiest to draw a picture of, and why?
  • If you could change one aspect of the book, what would it be, and why did that aspect not work for you?
Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

My class enjoyed listening to me as I read this tale aloud. We liked how the main character, Meg, learned several life lessons.

I enjoyed reading this book. My favorite character was Meg because she learned to stop lying and accept hard challenges in her life.

This book was extremely hard to read towards the end - tears weld up in my eyes. It really showed me that anyone can live through the rough parts.

This book is very intresting it teches u a lesson about lying. The lesson was little white lyes can turn in to big lyes the suddennly you are trapped in lyes and you don't no how to get out of them. Meg learned her lesson that you shouldn't lye just to make friends because they might like for who you really are!

In Tall Tales there was a part were Meg lied about her grandpa I would change this part because eventually everyone figured out she was lying and disliked her. Only her friend Grace truly liked her even after she lied.

One part in Tall Tales confused me. The part where it said that the dad was drinking confused me. I didn't know what they meant by drinking, so I thought he wasn't drinking anything, not alcohol. I should have guessed by how he acted.

I felt bad for Meg because she was new and no one liked her or would talk to her. I also felt that it was wrong for her to lie to her soon to be friend after i read the back of the book. I really got hooked with and couldn't stop reading!

I thought it was really obvious that Meg was going to be accepted by somebody because I thought the title give us some clues as did the front cover.

The boook tall tales taught me that when there are changes like moving and starting over at a new school, you don't have to lie to be noticed just be yourself and everything will go great.

This book is really good in teaching life lessons. It teaches not to lie, because a little lie makes something else over here different, and you have to lie about that, and soon you have different people seeing different things, and when they figure it out they know you are lying. I would recommend this book for a 2nd or 3rd grade read aloud.
