This is the Blog Spot for Cynthia C. DeFelice's One Potato, Two Potato You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • Why do you think the author chose potatoes instead of maybe chickens or corn?
  • What do you think the author is telling us about life?
  • What made the funniest part of One Potato, Two Potato work so well?
  • How is this story similar to another folk tale or fairy tale?

Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

I thought it was smart to double the coins. I also thought it was funny to clone themselves! I was glad they had some new friends!

This book is very interesting and reminds me of another book named Stone. It had a pot that was also magical. My favorite part was when the old man and woman duplicate the golden coins. I also liked that the couple was not greedy. The only duplicated what they really needed.

This book has a really good meaning for life. The couple did not keep the pot and keep making more money. They only got what they needed, and then put it back for somebody else. All they needed were friends, and they got them. This book also shows you that money is not very important in life, but other people are.

I think the author used potatoes instead of chickens or ducks or something because they had a farm and they only grew things. Maybe the author chose potatoes because it made a better title than the other things I mentioned. One chicken two chicken doesn't sound right.

In this book, I like that the couple got "doubled" from the pot.

I like the way that the old couple "doubled" themselves.

This book has good word choice and pictures. My favorite picture is when Mrs.O`Grady got duplicated and is looking at the duplicate. I agree with Hannah M. that the tittle sounds best with potatos and not chickens.

I think the funniest part was when the grandma falls into the pot.
