This is the Blog Spot for Tim Tingle's Crossing Bok Chitto You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • How do the pictures show the mood of the story?
  • Did you think the friendship in Crossing Bok Chitto was realistic?  Could it have really happened?
  • What did you learn about Choctaws?
  • Was this story exciting or frightening?  Why or why not?

Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

This is a password-protected, secure Blog.  Only Forest Creek Elementary students and staff members are authorized to read and use this site.

If you like Crossing Bok Chitto, you will also like a brand new book to our library that has won several awards. It is called Moses, and it is about Harriet Tubman, who has sometimes been called the "Moses" of African-American freedom, because she helped slaves cross rivers so they could be free just like Mo did in Crossing Bok Chitto. I liked Crossing Bok Chitto, but I think I like Weatherford's Moses just a little bit better.

This books pictures set the mood for both the African Americans and the Choctaws emotions. This book is frightening because during the story the boys Mom was sold and the family would never see her again.

This book has great pictures that show the emotions of both the guards and the Choctaws. This book also shows how wrong slavery is, and how it needs to stop.

I liked Crossing Bok Chitto and it was both frightening and exciting. It is frightening because the mom gets sold. It is exciting because when they were crossing the river, until the book says they became invisible, you don't know what happens next.

I really liked how the author described how you could get past the gaurds, with your head down and more.i think the pictures explained a lot because there is so many expressions. i thought that it was frightening because no one would ever wan to be sold.

When they crossed bok chitto I was amazed that they weren't caught. I was really worried when the mom saw her. I was wondering how she'd act happy to see her or mad.

I think this book has good word choice. This book made me jump out of my seat because the mom was sold. My favorite charecter was Martha Tom because he has lots of faith.
