This is the Blog Spot for Joyce Sidman's This is Just to Say You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • Which poem might you choose if you were going to put one in a greeting card?  Why?
  • Which poem was your least favorite?  Why?
  • Why might these poems be more important or useful than other poetry books?  Or would they?
  • If you could make a song out of one of these poems, which one would it be, and who would perform it?  Explain.

  • Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")
This is a password-protected, secure Blog.  Only Forest Creek Elementary students and staff members are authorized to read and use this site.

My least favorite poem is "It Was Quiet" because the dog died and it seemed like the kid was extremly sad! My favorite poem was "Secret Message" because it talked about where to put a secret message.

The coolest poem in this book is the one where every other line, the same phrase repeats. This seems like it would be really hard to make the poem make sense this way, but it does.

This Is Just To Say is more useful than other poetry books because it has apologies and forgiveness, and so if you need ideas for apologies, then you can use this book for ideas.

Carly made a good posting but needs to re-post because she included her last name. She said the poem "Roses are Red" made me mad. It surprised me, but it did not make me mad. Smile I even thought I laughed a little (after the initial gasp) --I was surprised that TLA might nominate a book that has that word in it, though. I am looking forward to hearing what you guys and girls think of that poem. It is a sad, angry one in response to the poem about the girl who stabbed her sister with a pencil.

I really liked the poem with the brownies because it describes how he felt about taking them. His stomach was saying yes but his mind knew it was wrong and that he would get in trouble.

I loved the poems. It was cool that a class wrote the poems. I thought it was intresting to see what other people regret.
