This is the Blog Spot for Patrick Carman's Atherton : the House of Power You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • The House of Power is the first of a series of books.  Predict what could happen in the next Atherton.
  • Explain the importance of something that is secret or forbidden in The House of Power.
  • Carman uses some vivid description in The House of Power.  What is one thing, person, place, or event Carman describes especially well?  Share some good describing words or paraphrase what Carman says.
  • If you were going to visit one of the three worlds of Atherton, which one would you visit, and why?

Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

This is a password-protected, secure Blog.  Only Forest Creek Elementary students and staff members are authorized to read and use this site.

The Cleaners were my favorite characters because they completely devoured everything, a lot like me!

I liked this book so much because at the beginning, it seems like some boring fantasy world. As it progresses, you see what is going on, and it becomes very exciting. You learn a lot about this new world, and why it was made, especially when Edgar goes to the Flatlands. Waiting until the end to tell you this makes you want to read the next book in the series.

In the house of power, the water flow is important because it falls from the Highlands down to the level called Tabletop. From Tabletop, it falls down to the Flatlands.

I would go to the highlands, because we would know what a horse was and wouldn't think it was a long-necked brown thing.
