This is the Blog Spot for Patricia Lauber's Marvelous Mattie: How Margaret E. Knight Became an Inventor You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • Describe one problem Mattie had to overcome and how she did it.
  • Describe what is happening on the page that has the most interesting picture.
  • How could a teacher use Marvelous Mattie in the classroom?
  • How were things different for girls and women back then?
Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

One promblem that Mattie had to overcome was that she was a girl. This was a promblem because Men thougt that women and girls were just stay at home to cook and clean. So Mattie showed everyone that girls and women can accomplish anything.

One promblem i had this book was that the guy stole her idea i didnt at all think that was ok. But it was a really great book and i also think that she proved herself that girls can be better then boys.

The drawings at the bottom of the page show the drawings from her sketchbook that are her ideas for inventions. These drawings, along with the pictures, help you visualize the inventions she has made. She kept being told that girls could not do the things she did. Mattie ignored these comments and kept going to make the machine that made amazing paper bags.

When I read this book, I didn't think that paper bags weren't all too cool of an invention, but I think the machine that makes them would have been hard to make.

I think this book prooves girls and boys are equal. I disagree with Blake, Just because he is a boy it doesn`t mean he is better than a girl. Anywas, it is like blak and white, they are equal.

This book captured my attention because it showed that girls and boys are equal. I do not think that Nathaniel should have not said "for a Woman."

Back then it must have been hard for women/girls to say their beliefs because they probably got judged since they were girls. So I am glad this book stated that girls have the same rights and that we are ALL equal!

I think that this book is a good read aloud because it is not that long and has things on science.Blake you are wrong to say that boys are better than girls, besides, everyone is equal.

Everyone keeps saying that "Oh this book is so awesome because it shows that girls are as good as boys." That's not even the main point of the story. It's that no matter what happens, don't give up.
