This is the Blog Spot for Gary Paulsen's Lawn Boy You must read the entire book before you can add a comment here.

A meaningful Blog will include a variety of opinions and a rich discussion of a topic.  This Blog will give students a chance to share their unique views about this year's Bluebonnet books.

Here are some ideas for comments:

  • Compare Lawn Boy to a similar book or movie.
  • How could a teacher use Lawn Boy in the classroom?
  • What part of Lawn Boy evoked your emotions the most & how? (laughter, shock, sadness...)
  • If you could change one aspect of the book, what would it be, and why did that aspect not work for you?
Once several students have shared their own comments, you may want to respond to those comments.  You may respond to your classmates with courtesy.  Make sure to add some sort of additional insight, though.  (Don't just say, "I agree.")

This is a password-protected, secure Blog.  Only Forest Creek Elementary students and staff members are authorized to read and use this site.

Remember, you must read and comment on five books in order to participate in the Bluebonnet voting in January.

My class loved this book. The characters were fun to get to know. This book really helped us with learning vocabulary for our econmics unit. We were surprised that a 12 year old could earn so much money just from mowing lawns.

The Grandma was my favorite character in the Book Lawn Boy. The Grandma was my favorite character because when she talks it comes out weird but then when youthink about what she said it made a lot of sense. She was funny! Everything she said was funny too.

My favorite character was joey he was a prizefighter put he seemed to me he had a soft side. All he wanted to do was protect his sponser from getting hurt from rock. The grandma was also a funny character. She was a grandma who just said stuff when she got a chance!

My teacher read Lawn Boy to our class when we were learning economics vocabulary. The chapter names confused our class, but our teacher explained them in simpler vocabulary. We actually knew most of the meanings.

I agree with Mrs. Jezisek in that it is amazing that a kid could get so much money just mowing lawns. Although when you think about it, all that money really adds up quick, even for just $20 a lawn.

I think that this book's moral is extremely important to to the guidelines of life, such as "You can do anything if you try your hardest." Also "If you only look at the negatives you will truly never see the positives." Positives such as taking a deal from a crazy man named Arnold and making almost $50,000!

If I could change one aspect of the book I would change Arnolds personality. I would change it from nerdy and weird to not weird and cool.

I was surprised that they talked about the stock market because a lot of people do not know what it is. The book also had good similes!

Even though the book did not have pictures I could see one clearly in my head like I was there. I also think that the author wrote good descriptions.

I personally agree with what veronica said because if you put your heart in it you can sucseed. My favorite charecter is joey because I could really imagine what he looks like and I pictured how he talked.
