Schooled, by Gordon Korman
Capricorn Anderson has been living in a time warp. He grew up with his grandmother, Rain, on an old hippie commune out in the middle of nowhere. He didn't have a telephone, television, iPod or any other modern-day conveniences that we take for granted.
When his grandmother is injured in a fall, Cap has to go to public school for the first time in his life. When he shows up with long, flowing hair and a tie-dye shirt, the students don't know what to make of him. As a complete innocent, he is immediately targeted by school bullies who set him up to make a complete fool of himself.
Read Schooled to find out how the weirdest kid in the 8th grade at C-Average Junior High manages to become the most popular guy on campus. It's funny and touching all at the same time.
