We finally have our new library catalog up and running. It's taken a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it. It's called Destiny and it is web-based - meaning that you can access it at home through the library's home page. Just look for the jumping computer. I'll be giving you info on how to use it for all sorts of cool things the next time your class comes to the library. Feel free to play with it, though, in the meantime.
Back to books..... One of my favorite books on the Lone Star list this year is a fantasy. I usually enjoy really well-written fantasy novels. Some of my old favorites are the Lost Years of Merlin books by Barron and the Percy Jackson (Lightning Thief ) series by Riordan. Right up there with the best, though, is this year's The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. What a thrilling ride it takes you on!
In a matter of moments, the lives of twins Josh and Sophie are changed forever. They get involved with Nicholas Flamel, who is about 700 years old, in an adventure that involves mythical creatures of all types. Some are good, some bad - either helping or hindering the twins' quest to guard a book that holds the secrets of eternal life. In the wrong hands it could lead to the end of the world as we know it.
I think Lightning Thief or Harry Potter fans would especially enjoy this one. And there is already a sequel out, so look for it on the new book shelf in the library.
