"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."  Do you think this children's rhyme is true?  Why or why not?  Give examples.

Unfortunatly, words do hurt us. No matter what anyone says. It doesn't matter what they say. If they say "Your ugly", I say to myself, "am I really ugly?""does everyone think that Im ugly too?"

no because many words can hurt and saying that line will most likly get you called wimp and many more bad names with the possiblity to get hurt

I agree, it depends on what you say also. Because, sometimes, the words can get to you, or not. It depends on how you deal with criticism, or how it's said. Because if someone called me fat, I would probuley shake it off and be positive about myself.

I think that sticks and stones will break your bones but I think words can hurt you by lowering your self-esteem.

I think this is definitely true for me, but it may not work this way for others. Usually, when I get hurt by words, I think about the positive side of myself. When I get called stupid or something, I just remind myself that i'm not stupid.

i think that this rhyme is not true at all.I feel this way because words have hurt me from time to time, and i have also seen it happen to other people before. For instance at my last school i went to ,the last year i was there one person in my grade that went there actully left the school , about half way through the year. for this reason and also from my own experiences i think that it is not true!

The phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is true to some extent. If you say it out loud in front of the bully, they might beat you up and call you a loser. Words can hurt you, but usually only very offensive comments hurt you. If they physicaly hurt you or call you a very mean name and they won't stop, you should notify a teacher or a higher authority.

I do not think that rime is true at all. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words hurt your mind and heart. If somebody calls you a name or something it makes me wonder am i really dumb, or am i really ugly.

it may be true for some people, but words can hurt, even if the people are kidding. i've learned from experince, from both ends, that words can hurt. so be careful what you say.
