These quotes say a lot in a little. I think that they mean that you do not have to be smart to be wise. Also I think that the top one is saying that there are two types of wisdom, there is good wisdom and there is bad wisdom. I think that the bottom quote is saying that some responsibilities of being wise is to be prepared for the feature and not to worry about the past because you can not change what has already happened no matter how much we want to.
What these quotes mean to me is do not hang out in the past but try to be alert for what is up the road.

To me, the first quote mean that wisdom is how we tell wrong from right. The second quote by Shaw, tells us that wisdom does not judge on what we did in the past, but how we control destiny. We have a choice every day, to make the most of our time, to spend it wisely or foolishly. To me, wisdom is better than being smart. Being “smart” means knowing the facts, while being wise means knowing fact from fiction. What use are facts, if they’re fiction? It’s better to know right from wrong than to think that wrong is right.

I believe Cicero is trying to tell us that we need to understand the difference between good choices and bad choices in order to excel. Shaw is trying to explain that we need not to ponder what has already happened, but be intelligent about what little time we have. Being smart is reading and memorizing every single word in your textbook, but wise old men (not necessarily) really know their facts from the heart.

I think that the quote by Cicero means that the point of wisdom is to be able to make the correct choices and living a responsible life. Wisdom is what you learn from experience and your peers and how you use your knowledge to make good decisions in everything you do.
I think that the quote by Shaw means that you gain wisdom by the pressure you put on yourself. Your future is minutes from now, and wisdom is how you are prepared for it. Everything you do affects you in one way or another, and wisdom is always thinking about how certain actions will affect you.
Being smart, to me, is the ability to grasp concepts and understand things. Being smart also means having the ability to learn new things. Wisdom, however, is applying what you learn to your everyday life. Each and every day you learn how to be more responsible, or how to make better choices, and sometimes just how to do solve a problem- and all of these can be used in life.
If you are wise enough to know how to use them.

In my opinion, the first quote by Cicero means that to be wise, you need to know what is right and what is wrong. The quote by G.B. Shaw meant that we don’t gain wisdom from our past but for our future. To me, smart is if your I.Q. is high. Wisdom is a trait that you gain from learning from your mistakes to help you with your future, so that you won’t make the same mistake again. So in conclusion, being wise is what you learned from your mistakes.

I think that in the first quote he is trying to say that there are two different types of wisdom, good, and bad that we need to make a wise decision. Then the bottom quote I think means that you need to just focus on what is right in front of you instead of looking back to the past.

In both of these quotes they are trying to prove a point that the world needs to pick their heads up and stop living their lives in the past and to live it with pride, responsibility, and wisdom. That is what the two quotes mean to me.

I think that the quote "The function of wisdom is to discriminate between good and evil" means that you are wise if you can differentiate between the good and bad choices, and take the good ones. "We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future" means that what you have done in the past is not what make you wise, what you are going to do in the future makes you wise. There is a big difference between being smart and being wise. You are smart if you are clever, witty, sharp and a quick thinker. You are wise when you make good choices, knowing that there are bad ones. Your wisdom increases with your life experiences.

These two quotes mean that wisdom is learned throughout your life and that being wise is more than just having a lot of knowledge. It also says that being wise means having responsibility for your future and not living in the past. Being smart, just means to be able to understand things quickly and being able to learn quickly and have lots of knowledge. Being wise, means you are able to make good choices and be able to see both sides or an arguement. Being wise means you know the difference between right and wrong and will choose the right decision no matter what.

To me the first quote means that to be wise is to be able to show that you can make choices between right and wrong. The second quote means that we are not wise because of mistakes we made in the past and learning from those but being responsible for things in our future makes us wise. The second quote made me rethink my definition of wise. I always thought that wise was being able to learn from your own past and not make the same mistakes in the future. But this quote took what I thought and pretty much turned it around because it says you are not wise from what you learned from the past but what you do in the future. Being smart is being good in school. You can memorize things and learn easily. But being wise means you may or may not be book smart but you know about making the right decisions.

In the first quote, the great orator Cicero states that wisdom is to tell good from evil, good and evil aren't neccessarily right from wrong, but more profoundly it is to tell the difference between what is and what isn't. Like when a lion kills an animal that doesn't mean he is bad or evil, it is simply the way of nature and life. I believe there is no wisdom only common sense. However being smart is just memorizing facts,no more, no less. If I were to chose from wisdom and smartness, I would rather chose wisdom, because I would not want to live blindly spending my life absorbing information and not being able to comprehend it.

To me the first quote by Cicero means that if you have even a little bit of wisdom in you, that you could tell what is right and what is wrong. The second quote made me think that you have control of your own destiny, and that you shouldn't dwell on the things that happened in the past. You may think that wisdom is gained by things that you have done wrong in the past, but wisdom is really what you learn the plan God has made you and you act upon that plan.

the first means that when you are wise you often make better choices. You have an open mind and think clearly. The secont means that We don't become wise because of our past but because we understand we will need it in the future. when you are smart you are knowlegable but when you are wise you are not only smart but you can make the right choices even on things you know littlw about.
