The Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference is held every four years in January following the presidential election. The Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (JrPYIC) provides inaugural scholars with a unique experience as they take part in and share firsthand in the excitement and ceremony of the inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States.
This year our student Roberto Peña (7th grade) was selected among thousands of students in the nation, to attend and be part of this historic event (from January 17 to 21, 2009). Roberto had the great opportunity to witness the responsibilities of leadership while commemorating a truly historic event - the presidential inauguration, as well as meeting and interacting with congressional staff, national journalists, renowned scholars, military leaders and leading decision-makers such as former Vice-President Al Gore and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Each Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (JrPYIC) is designed to educate, motivate and inspire students by giving them a deeper understanding of the electoral history of the United States, as well as their roles in democracy.
Barack Hussein Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2009. The son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, he was the first African-American to ascend to the highest office in the land.
Alumni of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council and National Young Scholars Program are exclusively invited to attend private Inaugural Conference events and activities such as roundtable discussions with national journalists, meetings with congressional staff, and point/counter point debates with leading political experts, as well as special events with VIP's. Inaugural Scholars also take part in the traditional ceremony of the inauguration itself, as they witness the official swearing-in of the President of the United States, and view the inaugural parade as the President, Vice President and their families make their way from the U.S. Capitol to the White House.
